ResMed - Mirage Liberty with facial hair??

Post by wraythosu » Tue Feb 05, 2013 8:15 pm

Hi all,

So I have been struggling to find/use a CPAP mask for almost a year now. I've tried nasal pillows and 2 different full face masks. And for various reasons they don't work for me.

When I started out, I really liked the nasal pillows, but couldn't stay with them because I breathe through my mouth (even with a strap).
Then I was cautioned against getting a hybrid because I have a mustache and goatee. But now I've given up on any other style.

I'm thinking strongly about trying the Mirage Liberty because I liked the ResMed nasal pillow mask I started with.
So I am wondering if anyone out there with facial hair uses this mask without major any problems?

I need to have something in mind when I go talk to my doctor about getting a new Rx.

Thanks!

I have a full beard and I was able to get it (and the Innomed Hybrid) to work for me.

There is a slight difference in the curvature of the oral cushion between Hybrid and Liberty (The Liberty ended up fitting me best but I'm weird anyway). So depending on the curvature of your face one may fit better for you than the other.

Having said all that -- I use the Swift LT nasal pillow interface. I went through the effort of fitting myself with the Hybrid/Liberty as a back up for sinus congestion. Weird thing is that I've not had any sinus congestion since going on CPAP therapy or for about 7 years now.

Anyway, it may be possible to fit a Hybrid or Liberty with a full beard, a goatee, I dunno.

Sorry, guess I wasn't much help for you on this one.

I have been using the Mirage Quattro full face mask for two years and have full beard and mustache. Some leakage but no problems according to the doctor.

If you search the forum you can find posts where people explain why first time users of a hybrid mask should get the Innomed Hybrid instead of the Mirage Liberty.

As well as I can remember here are some of the reasons:

- Much, much cheaper
- All three sizes included for one price
- Some other things about the fit, the chin flap, etc.

I started out with the Swift FX nasal mask, then went to the beastly Quattro full face, never again only to go back to the Swift FX nasal.., Mirage Liberty is next.
