SleepWeaver Elan making Meowing/Crying Sound

Post by jencat824 » Thu Feb 07, 2013 1:38 pm

Really, I'm not kidding. OK, most of you are thinking since I'm a cat lover, I'm hearing Meow in my sleep. I'm not only hearing it in my sleep, until we figured out it was me, my hubby was yelling at one of our cats, Bidette, thinking it was her at the bedroom door. I thought it was a leak, since I'm using the new smaller cushion & trying this as one of my many 'leak preventing' mask experiments. Well, this mask is actually decreasing my leaks, but the tube (the white tube from the cushion to the hose) is actually making a meowing sound.

I know this sounds really stupid, but is anyone else having this sound. The reason he thought it was Bidette is that she can't fully meow, but makes a meow/crying sound, this is a meow/crying like sound. My poor kitty was blamed for my mask sound! Seriously I thought of recording & posting here, but I think the .wav file would take up a lot of space on the server & that's probably a bad idea.

To try to explain the sound, it is like a meow with a cry mixed together and it stops when I lay my hand on the white tube. I've tried to see if it is a leak & can't find a leak on top, on the bottom, since the cushion is smaller, there are more vent holes so I can't tell if there is a leak there or not. I've tried letting the sound go on when I first lay down for about a 1/2 hour, then unplug for about 3 min, then return to the CPAP & look at data in am to compare to leaks, and it does not show up as a leak. I'm puzzled that it doesn't show as a leak, and I'm decreasing leaks with this smaller size mask. I do love the feel of the Elan & if it helps with my leak problem, I will use this as a primary mask, but until I have a full month of data to compare, I don't want to jump to conclusions.

That said, hubby wants my CPAP to stop meowing!
Jen

Hmmm... I am also using the new, small cushion. But I'm not hearing any meowing sounds. Just my normal "cooing" from the s9 and the occasional farting sound if I get the mask twisted up
I also have used a night guard for twelve years.

All the regular cpap hoses we have are smooth on the inside to reduce turbulence, with ribs or wire on the outside,.
The white plastic tube that comes with the élan appears to be radially "pleated" inside and out.
Blowing through the tube can produce a soft moaning sound, if you move it around a bit.
Could that be what you are hearing? I assume the aerodynamic effect is mostly benign.
Maybe Kathy will see this and respond (SleepWeaverMarketing).

I think they just didn't flatten the cats out enough before they made them.

Maybe that's what we are hearing. Unless anyone has any other suggestions, I may contact Kathy at SleepWeaver to she what her thoughts are & if she has a suggestion to reduce the noise. I thought after posting this that maybe a hose cozy from Pad-A-Cheek might muffle the noise, so I will consider that as well (will try the tube sock first).
Thanks,
Jen

Good Morning Jen!

I have to tell you that this feedback is certainly unique for me to hear!
BUT I promise to further investigate this noise myself.

I will try hard to mimic this sound over this weekend.

I promise to get back to you on Monday with what I discover.

In the meantime- if you have any more information about this sound or your experience with having it occur at certain times or in certain positions- please let me know.

Kind Regards,

Kathy

Morning !
I did try to mimic your 'cat' sound and was not successful.

However - I DO have some great ideas that might help your situation.

Is it possible to schedule a time to talk?

I am in the EST zone and would love to receive three times from you that are good for you to talk.

Then we can schedule this call if it is ok with you.

Thanks!
I look forward to hear back from you.

Kind Regards,
Kathy

Jen... I'm pretty sure I read that you are using the new small size Elan mask. Did this noise appear when you wore a different size... if you tried one? Just trying to cover all bases here. When I tried using the regular size mask it wasn't comfortable but I didn't hear any kitty noises.

I should receive the small size by Friday, so reading this thread with interest.

Good Morning,
I spent the better part of this week trying various things to make my SW Mask and feather weight tube mimic what you are experiencing and I have not been able to .
That being said- I can understand that you must be very frustrated.

So when I could not discover an easy answer- I turned to our Staff and no one there could either. However - we think that we should see your mask- perhaps there is something going on with the mask.

Please contact me at 724-387-9184 and I will make arrangements to send you a replacement mask and a return mailing label to get this mask and tube returned.

I am in the EST zone.

Thank you!!
Kathy
