S9 shutting down at night

Post by Gary_C » Thu Feb 07, 2013 6:47 pm

This week my S9 has started acting weird. It been shutting off in the middle of the night. Its done it four nights in a row now...usually about two to three hours into the night.

The first time it happened I freaked out...woke up and couldn't breathe...felt like I was gasping for breath...which I was. Took me a minute to realize the machine was not working. It was like there was no power to the unit. had to unplug it to get it to restart.

Three more nights and the same thing happened each night. Tonight I'm going to run an extension cord to a different outlet and see if that changes anything. Not sure if its my machine's power supply or the electric outlet...

Has anybody ever had problems with the power supply on these machines? I'm going to call my DME and see what they think but I thought I would check here first...(better information here...)

I was afraid of that.
Of course it quits on the weekend. You probably don't have a back up machine either.
You can try the usual unplug everything and plug back in (from wall socket and each connection) and the assemble again carefully to make sure all connections are solid....maybe a reboot of the machine's firmware will help. I doubt it but it won't hurt to try.
Contact machine supplier ASAP.

Just for grins and giggles, try running it without the humidifier. I know Resmed and Respironics is like apples and oranges, but my RemStar APAP stopped working unless I turned the humidifer off (or removed it).

It might get you through the weekend!

Most DME's are open on Friday and it's not even noon yet.

Yeah, it is isn't it. I got my days all screwed up. Hubby got home last night (normally comes home on Friday night) so I have been in Saturday mode all morning.

Pugsy, I went right along with you!

I should be @ work, but since we're expecting between 12 to 24 inches snow today and tomorrow I decided not to go in. Thus it easily 'feels' like the weekend! LOL!!

Glad I am not alone.
Yeah, I hear you all are going to get hammered...guess I had better not tell you that we are suppose to be in the 50s this weekend....at little rain maybe (which is good because we need it really bad).
We have really had a rather non eventful winter again this year. Knock on wood.

I called the DME and waiting for a call back. Hoping they can fix me up.

I think its the power supply that's bad. It seems to go off after running about an hour or two...(the little green light goes off) and earlier in the week it would come back on after unplugging and replugging it. Last night it just stayed off....so I tried to sleep the rest of the night without it...without much success...I finally got up and started on my day's activities about 5:30am. Plugged it back in about 8am and it worked. But I don't have any idea how long it will run.

DME usually has a loaner machine and I'm hoping they have it today...until they can get me replacement power supply.

I called the DME three times between 8 and 5...never got to talk with my RT. Left messages that my machine quit working. She never called back. Now they're gone for the weekend.

Nice...

If that doesn't say "Need a new DME" I don't know what does.

Don't suppose you have the 12V DC plug? That'd run your xPAP, but not your humidifer (if I read the S9 specs correctly).

That really sucks. I know after xPAP therapy I have a near impossible time sleeping without. I do recommend, if this works for you, sleeping in a recliner so you are somewhat more vertical. You might snore less.

Good luck!!

Is there a recorded message for emergency contacts when you call after hours?

This is an emergency and they're downright negligent IMHO for not taking care of this.

Don't give up on contacting them, and don't get off the phone until you have an answer - that's disgusting treatment.

I hope your weekend is tolerable.

Cheers,
xena

Which S9 are you talking about? I have a gizmo to tell me if the power is off. It's plugged together with the power supply of my S9 Autoset.
