Newbie
I just got my S9 with the humidifier and Opus 360. I've used it for 3 nights at around 7 to 7.5 hours per night. I've noticed a couple of things, my nose runs like crazy the next morning. I changed the humidifier level from 3 to 2.5 and it didn't seem as bad this morning. One other thing is multiple dreams every night. I've been going to bed around 10 pm and not 1.5 to 2 hours after falling asleep I'm dreaming. Is dreaming this quick normal? One other thing, I have a follow up at the Dr. on the 12th. He asked me to bring in the unit so he can download the data and if he needs to make adjustments to the unit. Can I download the info without messing up the data that the Dr. needs? Thanks all!
Re: Newbie
Yes, you can download the data from the SD card into the software and it won't later the data that is on the SD card at all.hamonrye wrote: Can I download the info without messing up the data that the Dr. needs? Thanks all!
Looking doesn't change anything.
SleepyHead doesn't have any way at all to change anything on the machine or the SD card.
ResScan will allow setting changes to be programmed into the SD card but it is a complicated process that is totally separate from viewing the reports and no way you would be able to get to that area of the software and make a change by accident. It isn't easy to do even if you know what you are trying to do.
We can dream in all sleep cycles but REM cycle is where most dreaming occurs.
Normal patter for REM sleep is that it will start 90 to 120 minutes after sleep onset.
You can read about the cycles here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep
They say that we may dream often but may not remember them unless we wake up in the middle of one.
Prior to cpap therapy the normal sleep cycles are disrupted by frequent arousals from the apneas. The sleep cycles get all out of whack. Once effective sleep apnea is initiated then the sleep cycles tend to normalize and REM stages increase. Seems like we also wake up a lot during the first weeks of therapy just because things are new. It stands to reason that if there are some awakenings during rem sleep that we would tend to remember more dreams.

Re: Newbie
I can only address the issue of the runny nose and can't offer a definitive answer to your question.
I started off with a humidity setting of 3 and encountered terrible congestion which lasted for a couple of weeks. I then changed the humidity settings to 2 for a few days and then down to 1. I still had congestion issues and thought I may have had mold in my tubes. I persevered and upped the humidity to five and six with no tangible results on the congestion problem.
I eventually ended up not using the humidifier, or using it in the "passover mode" where there is water in the tank but it is not heated by the humidifier. That seemed to give me the best results. But I do live in a rather humid climate so maybe there wasn't the necessity of having the humidifier running at all. I started pap therapy under the direction of the local RT so I would have thought that his setting the humidifier to three would have been appropriate in our environment. But now I think it is more of a setting decided upon by the individual receiving the therapy.
If you have the S9 Autoset or S9 Elite you can download the data to your own computer to track your treatment efficacy. Others will be along to direct you on how to do that. I believe Pugsy just did that!!!

I forgot...SleepyHead...I have information about it in my signature line at the bottom left of this post.
ResScan is ResMed's software.
You can find a link with information on how to get it in UncleBob's signature line.

When I started cpap therapy, I started dreaming like there is no tomorrow. It's normal. I think its because you are getting more sleep and spending more time in the different stages of sleep. It's a good sign. It means you are on the right path.

As the Sheriff mentioned, dreaming like this is normal. Since you have been living with a sleep disorder for a while, your REM sleep was probably disrupted, and you probably didn't have much at all for dreams. Once you start sleeping better and are getting real consistent REM, your brain starts dreaming again. In fact, it kind of goes into high gear since it has a lot to catch up on. It is a really good sign that your treatment is working by confirming that you are sleeping much better. Since you are not used to this dreaming, it will feel especially vivid. Many of us go through that, and it does feel really weird at first.
I kind of enjoyed getting a peek into what my brain was doing via this dreaming. I learned that my subconscious was a lot more assertive than my normal personality. I had one dream where I was at a restaurant, and the waiter kept messing up my order over and over again. In my dream, I finally got up and really ripped into the poor waiter. I'd never do that in real life, but it was kind of funny seeing myself do it in my dream.
