Re: humidifier issue
Hello & welcome. To help us best help you, please fill in your machine & mask type by going to the User Control Panel. How old is the machine?
Sounds like you may have a mechanical problem, but lets see what other forum members may think. My hubby just got this type of humidifier and I've never seen any orange glow. I would think the machine should still be covered by warranty.
The DME who sold you the machine would be the starting point for getting it fixed, insurance should not come into play if it is under warrantly or was defective when it was sold to you.
Good luck,
Jen

Is the orange glow when you turn the unit on or when you wake up? Are you in a very cold area where the air is very dry? Do you have the humidifier set very high?

Re: humidifier issue
Huh. I don't do the preheat and mine comes on orange sometimes; I always thought it meant low water. My humidifier light comes on -- either blue or orange -- at night when I'm putting the SD card back in just before bedtime, and then again when I actually turn the machine on. But I never actually *looked* to see what the colors mean.

Classic symptoms of mouth leakage. Search for topics on mouth leakage. You may have to resort to a mask that covers your mouth or tape your mouth to keep lips from blowing open.YELOOCD wrote:Hello, I have a new...er machine...been working fine but lately I wake often with a dry mouth..the H5i glows orangish and I have to refill it every evening ...this waking up dry is getting annoying...any suggestions? Re: humidifier issue
The color of the light that comes on in the ResMed S9 (whether you turn it on by pressing down the round button or it comes on automatically) means:
Orange - Humidifier is heating up, is already heated up, or is still in its cooldown mode.
Blue - Humidifier has already cooled down or was never heated up.
That light (no matter what color) will go off by itself automatically after a short period of tiem.

Re: humidifier issue
The display turns off after a while when you're using the machine if you don't touch the knobs. It comes back on when you turn the machine off.
The humidifier light turns on and off with the display light.
The humidifier light is orange if it's heating, or if it's cooling down after you turn the machine off. It's blue if the humidifier heat is off. It will normally be orange for a while after you turn the machine off. It doesn't matter if the tank is full or not.
The OP has a full face mask, so mouth leaks shouldn't be a problem.
You could have leaks around the mask increasing your water usage. Get the SleepyHead software and check to see if you're having air leaks during the night. Also, disconnect the hose from your mask, plug up the end of the hose, turn the machine on, and listen for leaks somewhere in the system.
Other than that, setting the humidity high or having dry room air will increase usage. Even if it doesn't feel humid, humidity is lower when the air is cold. You'll also use more water the higher your pressure is because the mask vents more air at higher pressure.
Unless you have excessive air leaks or a water leak, the only place the water can go is into your mask and then out through the vent like it's supposed to. If you need the amount of humidity you're getting there's no way for the humidifier to "lose" the water.

Re: humidifier issue
I alternate between the 2 different tanks used on the H5i... 5 days a week, I use the dishwasher safe tank. But when it is in the dishwasher, I use the disposable/ non opening tank.
my experience is that I use more water when I use the tank that can't be opened... the bottom of it is lighter and tends to heat up more that the heavier dishwasher safe humidity tank.

Re: humidifier issue
I occasionally have the same problem. After about 8 years I went to an ENT doctor and now can easily breathe through my nose. If I have a dry mouth, is is usually because my full face mask is leaking air or my nose is stopped up. It has been 10 years now and Iim finally getting better rest. Because of age and weight, I still wake up 3-5 times a night unless I use a sleep aid.

Re: humidifier issue
I have the H5i and was having the same problem. First, the lights turn on when you mess with the machine. Blue means your decision has been locked in, if you push the "turning knob" it will turn the light orange, and lets you adjust the heat level. I was going through almost a full tank a night on a setting of 5.5, with no mouth leaks, but I was still dry, so I got the Climateline Max heated tube and everything is working much better for me. Have had the tube for almost 2 weeks.
