eye irritation question

Post by lostsheep » Sun Jan 13, 2013 1:40 am

Has anyone using nose pillows ever gotten irritated eyes from their therapy?

Once while at the DME, the respiratory tech mentioned that the eye ducts can leak air out under really high pressures, thus explaining the full-face and over-the-eye(!) huge sized mask in his office. Is it possible that I am experiencing this type of problem with pressure that maxes out at 12 or 15?

I am familiar with complaints of air leaking out of the mask, but I think those people are using a real mask and not nose pillows? I find it hard to believe that I'm getting leaks from way down at my nose that blow hard enough to irritate my closed eyes. I've never really understood how that could happen, but I'm going around with puffy eyelids and red, irritated eyes. Oh, and the exhale vent is pointed down, with the air tube always going up over my head.

I'd like to figure this out, if anyone has any similar experience.

Thanks

Yes, my eyes are drier at night even though I use the nasal pillows. This complaint has resolved with using nightly eye lubricant. Tears Again was the cheapest, but be cautious to not get the petroleum lubricant near the silicone. Occasionally during the day, I use Systane gel drops, expensive, but the drops are thick & viscous.Oddly enough, since I started CPAP, my routine eye apt found my eye pressure higher and some evidence of corneal scarring, so do have your eyes checked out soon.

Had terrible eye irritation on nasal pillows during first month of cpap. Resulted in two episodes of allergic conjunctivitis. Had to decrease pressure to 4; from prescribed 4 to 7; use 3 nites and skip the 4th. Gradually became more tolerant but still Can't use every night without eye pressure and sinus pressure. Despite that the sleep difference from using cpap is great! I am 6 mo into it.
