Want'd to say I was wrong..I was told you could not use the card for the extra stuff this year..Well,the wifey had to get some saline solution&I ask'd her to give them the card to see if it would cover& yes it did..Well,I eat crow...Again,I was wrong& I'm sorry for that..

Someone help me understand FSA as I don't have one but my daughter does. As I understand she places money into the FSA and then she can't purchase medical supplies she needs without a Rx. The two lists given that you can purchase and one you need a Rx are just, well I can't say in front of company. If you have a family of kids which list do you suppose you are going to need the most.

I don't understand, how she is setting the money aside and whoever is administering the program is telling her how she can and can not spend her money.

Your daughter can purchase all the medical supplies she needs. If she wants to use the flex plan to reimburse the costs, then it needs to be a qualified expense. Someone with children who may purchase more supplies from the "needs a prescription" list and thus would not be reimbursed through the plan without that prescription. Instead, she could use the reimbursement for those items which do qualify... deductibles, co-pays, prescriptions, etc. and use other funds for those things that don't qualify.

Thanks for the reply ugh. I think I just spotted the key to this plan. Money placed in plan must be non-taxable.

Driving 60 miles round trip for a Rx, for diaper rash ointment or bandaids, defeats the purpose and a person would be money ahead to set up a line item in their budget.

I use my flex plan, but only plan to use it for deductibles, prescriptions, co-pays, glasses, physical therapy, and the like. Now, my CPAP supplies as well. Bandaids, pain killers, etc. I don't even bother with.
