Confused About Humidiers

Post by walking coma » Tue Jan 08, 2013 8:31 pm

I started out on a heated integrated humidifier,my nose became really dry;the sleep technican changed it to the passover one ,now I have sinus congestion. My ENT prescribed Omnaris but I can't afford it so I am using Nasonex which I already have.
I also rinse my nose with Otrivin saline spray. Should I go back to the heated humidifier? If so at what setting, it goes from 1 to 5. It's winter where I live right now.

This doesn't sound right...an integrated humidifier is heated and will put out lots of humidity which you need if your nose is really dry. A passover humidifier is essentially a water tank with the air running over it putting out a minimum amount of humidity. Definitely go back to the integrated and start with #3 and increase as needed.

You may (like myself) live not far from water, and not need it much except for colder winter days/weeks when it's very dry indoors, and having used the first one 'heated' if you didn't need it may have had a drying effect. I also find I get congested if I use anything but the lowest setting at any time.

Humidity is a trial and error thing. Try the various heat settings until you find what works best for you. Some people need 5, some do better with none. Most people do better with at least a little humidity.

Humidity is variable here.
I found a little cheapie hygrometer (humidity gauge) in with the humidifiers at Wal Mart.
If the numbers are very low, I keep extra water handy.
