dark red lines on face where mask touches me
dark red lines on face where mask touches me
got a new mask... Opus Nasal Pillows. Was using the Swift Nasal pillows for a while and it appears this mask is not co-operating with my skin. I've had it about a week and I have dark red marks where the mask touches my face. So freakin frustrated! I noticed is the very first day after I used the new mask, but I had gotten some sun that day, and also trimed my beard, and I was hopeful it was just a little sun burn combined with the contrast of white skin where hair had previously been... NOPE, ITS DEFINITELY THE MASK.
I got this mask instead of the Swift Nasal Pillows because they were out of the Swift where I go. At the same meeting, my respiratory therapist made notice that nostrils are getting bigger and said I may need to go to a large nasal pillow.... SWEET, that means they will get even bigger - AWESOME. So bright red lines down the side of my face, and nostrils the size of blimps, sounds good doc.
Luckily my leak and apneas per hour have been fine as of late, so I don't think I need to go to the large nasal pillows as of yet... but this rash is kind of annoying the crap out of me. I wouldn't wish sleep apnea upon my worst enemy.
Anyone else had this happen? I've also noticed the design of this mask does push up on my nose more than the Swift mask did, and my bulb of my nose/nostrils appear a bit more swollen in the morning. Maybe soaking the mask again will help, but at this point I really wish I Just stuck with my guns and got the Swift online or something.
DOH

Can you be more specific? We have a member that makes mask liners or what? Pada-cheek is his/her user name?BlackSpinner wrote:strap covers and mask liners by our member Pada-cheek
It's definitely from the silicone that lines the inside of the mask.... very irritating. Truthfully I didn't wash the mask all that well when I got it...I should probably try that too, but I'm looking forward to hearing more about these mask liners. Yay, another accessory to wear to bed.

Take it back! It's not their job to make it harder for you, or to injure you with the WRONG equipment.

Re: dark red lines on face where mask touches me
At this point I really would like to just have the Swift again. I highly doubt they are going to take this mask back. The respitory therapist was great, she gave me extra nasal pillows for free (and risked getting in trouble) but yeah at this point I really would just prefer to have the old mask back....it fit better too.chunkyfrog wrote:Take it back! I'll call them Monday and see if they will take it back. Highly doubt they will.

Re: dark red lines on face where mask touches me
If you have to go out of pocket for the Swift FX, check this:
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... dgear.html
Your doctorr needs to know what the mask that was pushed on you is doing to your face.
He might want to "lean" on them a bit.
And the line about getting in trouble with the boss--have you ever shopped for a used car?

Re: dark red lines on face where mask touches me
Yeah I know, she probably throws in extra nasal pillows for alot of people and tells them they are receiving special care. They sell nasal pillows (one) for $40.00 at this place! She gave me three extras. Sure, she probably does that far more often than she led me to believe.chunkyfrog wrote:If you have to go out of pocket for the Swift FX, check this:

Agreed fully on the "leaning" on Opus. I'm going to call Monday morning and ask that they swap this out for a Swift Nasal Pillow mask. Again, I highly doubt they will... she made mention several times they do not take masks back, but alot of the time if you bitch enough they will make an exception.
And yes, I'm all out of pocket. Thanks for the help frog and everyone else!

Bitch all you like - I don't think they'll do it - it's not a dress, but very personal equipment. They can sterilize it if they want, but if they have a policy (love those, don't we?) then I think you're sunk.
Re: dark red lines on face where mask touches me
cpap.com will let you return for a fee. Should have just gone with them. I'll call them Monday and see if they can help. If not, worst comes to worst I'll use this one for the next two-three months and then go back to the Swift when its time to replace.Julie wrote:Bitch all you like - I don't think they'll do it - it's not a dress, but very personal equipment. Speaking of which, how often do you guys replace your mask/headgear?
This mask really does push my nose up alot more than the Swift did... I'm an idiot for listening to her. What can you do?

Re: dark red lines on face where mask touches me
My mask starts to leak uncontrollably after 3 months. Sometimes I can get 3 months out of my headgear, but I'm not surprised if I don't. Some folks can get much longer out of a mask. It depends on the mask and the contour of the face and both. If I don't shave, I use Afta (unscented) on my red marks... and they seem to disappear within the hour. If I shave, I use Gold Bond Skin Healer on the marks.

Don't the manufacturers guarantee a 30 return policy? This was a new mask for you and it doesn't work. You should be able to bring it back and get one that works.yamar2001 wrote:got a new mask...
