Room humidifier recommendations?

Post by Bon Bon » Fri Dec 21, 2012 7:11 am

For the last few nights, the tank in my S9's humidifier has run dry hours before my alarm goes off. I fill it to the full line every night but I've been waking up between 2:00am-3:00am to the smell of a dry, overheated water tank.

I have my climate settings on Auto with the temp at 78 degrees. I'I thought about switching to manual mode and lowering the humidity, but I like the higher humidity especially this time of year.

Can anyone recommend a good (hopefully inexpensive) humidifier to keep in the bedroom that would help take some of the load off the S9? In addition to the smell waking me, I'm afraid this is going to damage my machine if it keeps up.

I'm thinking about ordering this one. It's Amazon's best seller and has good reviews.

Bon: I would call Resmed and tell them of your problem. This happened to me and repairs were needed. See what they say... Sheriff

That's a good idea, I'll give them a call this morning. How long did your repairs take?

Thanks!

You were right. I just talked to Resmed's tech support and they said it does sound like a problem with the humidifier. He said it has a 2 year warranty on it - thank goodness!!

And thank you again! I figured it was happening because the weather had finally turned colder/drier here in Oklahoma.

We have a "vornado" from Sears that seems to work well.

I am glad you are going to get the humidifier checked out. It shouldn't be using all the water each night and smelling stinky. I am in SW Missouri so not all that far from you and I have my settings pretty much maxed out and I have never run dry on my S9. I always have to add water daily but there is always a little left (maybe a third) even after 8 or 9 hours of use.

But one question...do you use wood hit in your house?

No wood, the fireplace and furnace both use gas.

Okay, was just a thought because if you did then your house would of course be a lot drier and some people do use wood heat primarily.

That's true.

Someone here at work asked about my thermostat setting in the house, if that could be affecting the humidifier. But, I keep my thermostat set in the low to mid 70's so nothing extreme. I can't imagine that would have anything to do with this.

Apria came and got it. They gave me a loaner, so I didn't miss any nights. It took 2-3 weeks. Sheriff

I still gotta say that there's something wrong with the humidifier. All the suggestions here would help or hinder a humidifier from working correctly, but there should be no room conditions that would make one go bone dry in a few hours. Just my two cents worth. Sheriff
