ResScan Data and Centrals

Post by Newsgrouper » Sat Dec 08, 2012 8:10 am

I have a habit of sometimes holding my breath. If I do this while awake and wearing the mask could it show up in ResScan data as a central event?

Yes, it can and likely will show up as a central on the report if you pause your breathing long enough. The machine just records what it senses and has no way to know if you are awake or not.

Last summer I had occasion to wake up in the middle of the night with extreme nausea...one of those times where you lay there and think "do I need to go bow before the throne". Well, I lay there for almost an hour not quite needing to go to the throne and prepare to vomit but I was close but I kept the mask on. I was awake for about and hour and I had a truckload of centrals show up on my report during that time frame. I know my breathing was erratic because it is just something that goes along with being really nauseated. The machine just called it like it saw it. Sort of messed up my overall data for that night with elevated centrals but since I knew there was an explanation for them it was no cause for alarm.

It's easy to find out in ResScan if a Central Apnea flag is the cause of holding your breath, blocking the air hose, etc.

Assume that I want to verify it for the first Central Apnea flag of 16 sec long at 05.00.

Also assume that I have the Flow graph for it.

Then I can go to Review, open the Double Panes Window, and check my respiration waves:

Well, firstly I can tell that there is a Skew in my SD Card. The CA flag should have been placed at the end of the Central Apnea (straight line at left). But overall, I been breathing all the time OK.
