3 months.... Need some suggestions.
It's been three months and I have not missed a day.
Averaging 8 hours of sleep, my AHI is down under 2. Pressure is 12.
Feel great, been exercising a month and using a Nike+ FuelBand (This is a great way to keep track of your activity)
Concerns.
My ResMed S9 seems to be noisier than before with a more pronounced "whine" on exhale. Suggestions......
I still get leaks from my mask (Quattro FX Full Face), played a lot with positions. Lately been waking up with a red patch across the bridge of my nose. Suggestions.....

Mike as far as the whine from your machine, I get the same noise from mine and I think it's from the way the hose is positioned and creates that sound when my breathing travels through. Not positive on that one though. as far as the leaks and the pain or marks on your nose you may want to try RemZzzz or make your own. They really help reduce the leaks and put a barrier between your face and the mask to stop pressure sores. They help reduce the amount of tightening you have to do on your headgear. Don't leave it like that or you will get a nasty sore that will be hard to heal.

Mask liner maybe?Mike Grasso wrote:I still get leaks from my mask (Quattro FX Full Face), played a lot with positions. Lately been waking up with a red patch across the bridge of my nose. Suggestions.....
Noisier than it has been in the past or just noticing it more now? If it is noticeably louder now than it was when you first started you might want to let your DME, who supplied the machine, know about it. Noise level shouldn't change. Especially get louder.Mike Grasso wrote: My ResMed S9 seems to be noisier than before with a more pronounced "whine" on exhale. Suggestions......

As to the noise, if it bothers you to arousals; you can make a sound dampening box. Just pick a carboard box and line it witl eggcrate. Do not worry about air getting in; make a hole facing away from you. The eggcrate will reduce the whine significantly.

Consistent whine is one thing but for the whine or bird call or whatever to get markedly louder over time isn't normal.
So the whine/bird call/hoot owl/or whatever may be normal to have and whatever level it is heard but for it the change and become a lot louder means the machine needs to be checked out.
Check filters or replace filters first thing.
I recently found the non fine more meshy washable filter that came with my S9 and decided to use it along with the white fine hypoallerginic filter and I have notice a dramatic drop in the exhale noise whine/coo or whatever it is called. It was hard to hear before but now I rarely hear it. I put the meshy porous filter to the outside and the fine filter on the inside.
If someone still has that white porous washable filter available they might try it along with the fine filter and see if their exhale whine is reduced. It did for me.

Been a week using the Boomerang Gel pad. It works, no redness and consistently under 1.5 with a couple under 1 AHI.
The remzzzzzz on the other hand are a bit of a waste...

The noise from the S9 flow generator is louder if you use EPRs. I like to listen to it b/c it tells me that my machine is doing a good job. About the FX mask, I tried it for a couple of days and was not happy with it. It crept all over my face. If you put your machine inside an insulated box then electronic components inside might heat up and damage the machine, and also the insurance, most likely, would be voided.

Re: 3 months.... Need some suggestions.
Two suggestions:
1.) Noise travels predominantly line-of-sight. Try placing your machine on a footstool or something next to the bed, but over the edge, maybe a foot off the floor. That will reduce the noise a lot.
2.) Try placing the machine on a folded towel on the nightstand. That should lower the noise quite a bit even if it's still line-of-sight to you.
3.) Consider placing a small fan somewhere in the room, facing a wall or the floor. The white noise the fan makes will certainly mask the noise caused by the machine.
The human ear responds non-linearly to sound level. In a very quiet environment, even very quiet sounds can sound loud. Like my snoring during my BC** days. Don't ask how I know!
** Before CPAP
