Two weeks on this S9 Auto

Post by Gary_C » Sun Dec 02, 2012 7:59 pm

I feel like I sleep better than I did on my old RemStar machine...its quieter and many less leaks with my mask...but I get a lot more complaints from my wife regarding increased amounts of snoring with this machine than I did with my old machine...

I found out that you can check the AHI from the night before...I've been getting about seven hours of sleep...with the AHI ranging 21-24. Last night was 27...I have a feeling that is not good.

Going to meet with the tech at the DME tomorrow...I have a feeling there will be changes in my pressure settings...

Thar is really bad AHI. It should be under 5 max.
Which kind of S9? What are your settings?

The pressure is at 7 which is what was prescribed after my recent sleep study. The tech who set up the machine had a feeling that setting would not work for me so asked me to come in after two weeks instead of the customary four week follow up required by the insurance company...

We'll see what she wants to do when she sees the data...

I think the pressure is too low. Ask the RT to set the machine to Auto with a pressure range to help determine your average pressure. Also, you may be mouth breathing which will show up as large leaks....

Gary

If its an auto you can set a pressure range, cpap is a constant pressure, apap is a pressure range which is adjusted by the machine figures out as you sleep.
you can get into the machines clinicians menus and set it to APAP mode and set a range of pressure.

press the top rectangular "I" button to get the display up.
press and hold the bottom rectangular button and the round dial down for a few seconds to get the clinicians menu.
The use the dial to scroll down and click on the settings to change them.
change the mode from cpap to apap and a pressure range of say 7cm min to whatever you want to try for the max.
Many people settle on a range of 5cm so 7cm to 12cm might be a good first try.

Also please see my link below my avatar to download the resmed software for your machine. Its an essential part of being it charge of your own therapy to have this.

A good first step is to figure out if any air is leaking. A high leak will not yield an accurate AHI score. The machines menu can give you an accurate leak reading and also a simple one by the face you see on the display in the morning.

good luck

So far the morning menu shows a smiley face for the mask setting...

I'll take a look at the software to read the data...

Gary

You really need to have the clinicians manual for your machine, check your private messages.
