I do seem to be waking up with air leaking around the nasal mask. I am not aware of any leaks from my mouth. I talked with one of the therapist at Trinity again yesterday about the settings. They continue to insist that I leave the settings alone and that any changes have to be ordered by my doc and they have to make any adjustments. They really aren't interested in helping me get the maximum benefit. This woman actually became a little hostile when I discussed some of the info I have gotten from this forum.

LOL. Not a surprise; you are threatening their income stream. And becoming an informed patient. Even worse, if you are a vocal woman, ask intaelligent questions and speak out for your rights and your health you will be perceived by many health or equipment care providers as a giant pain in the rear. You go, gal!

Crystal,

In reading over your posts on this subject, I don't see any mention of a second sleep study to determine the pressure you should be using. Or was your initial sleep study a split study? If it was they would have hooked you up to a cpap machine for the second half of the night and done the 'titration' part -- where they set the machine at different pressures until they find the level at which most of the apneas/hypopneas are stopped.

If you didn't have this part of the sleep study done, your doctor may be using the 4 - 20 setting as an at-home titration study to determine the best setting for you.

Before changing your settings, you may want to call your doctor and/or the sleep center where the study was done. Either of them should be able to tell you if the titration was done or if the doctor ordered this particular machine at these particular settings to do an at-home titration.

Hi Linda.
I did have a split sleep study but none of the info was provided to me. At the time, I didn't know what to request or what questions to ask. I have already called and requested a copy of my sleep study. The explanation I got from the therapist regarding the 4/20 setting was "4/20 is the range of my machine and it decides how much air I need."

I'm a work in progress!
