Swift FX mask
My DME is telling me that the Swift FX Mask is no longer available. Has anyone else heard this?
Re: Swift FX mask
The online guys are still selling the Swift FX and replacement parts as well, so I wonder what's going on with your DME? Maybe he doesn't like ResMed anymore? Or maybe there's another nasal pillow mask he gets a higher profit margin on *smile*?

Re: Swift FX mask
ResMed isn't going to discontinue one of their best selling masks.
Most likely your DME has elected not to purchase or stock the Swift FX because the profit margin isn't to their liking.
So instead of telling you the truth...they tell you a whopper.
Check with your insurance company for another DME that you can use with your insurance and find one that will supply the Swift FX and tell your old DME to go jump in the lake.
They might back peddle if they see they are going to lose your business and "find" some for you...or they may not care.
If it was me...I don't like being lied to and I would take my business elsewhere even if they "found" me a supply of the masks.

Or, one could ask for a discount since the product is "discontinued!" According to cpap.com, the Swift FX is worn by 39% of nasal pillow users. Yeah, they're not discontinuing that.

Re: Swift FX mask
I think DMEs typically buy whatever products they get the best deal on and that includes masks and machines.
My DME used to sell ResMed machines and since he dispensed ResMed machines they always had tons of ResMed masks.
Last year they changed over to Respironics machines and started supplying more Respironics mask but never totally got rid of all the ResMed masks. They were smart enough to realize that if they kept their clients happy they would still make some money. He told me that when the change was made to Respironics the ResMed masks because much cheaper mask price was related to how many machines were bought. Some of the not so popular ResMed masks were dropped from inventory but he told me would always have the Swift FX and Swift LT avaiable no matter what price they would have to pay because he had tons of people using them and he knew they wouldn't want to change.
Aslo...just because a DME doesn't maintain a certain mask as a normally stocked item there is nothing to prohibit them from ordering a mask as a special order. It may be more work for them but that is what they do to keep their people happly. My DME is a pretty nice guy. It's a small town satellite office for their larger hospital DME service in the big hospital an hour away.
So even if the higher ups decide not to stock such and such mask routinely there is still nothing preventing them from simply ordering a special mask. If they don't want to order it....then we don't have to use their services anymore.
Simple as that. Money talks.
The other part of this that I find just irks me to no end is they think we will simply blindly go along and not cause any trouble and take whatever they offer because it is "better"....yeah...better priced they say under their breath.
and we are treated like a stupid cow here that will just blindly follow along because we are stupid. Too stupid to know the difference or even care. Treat me stupid and they make an enemy for life and I won't every forget and I will get revenge in some form some how some way.
The Swift FX was released her in the US Spring 2010 I think it was. It's new and it's very effective and a high selling mask. Very popular mask across all genders (except for Avi123) and ages. ResMed will likely keep it around a very, very long time.
Now if a DME tells me that they are no longer going to carry the mask because of the cost to them and what is allowed to be paid for it ends up being not a good deal...I would respect their honesty but when someone flat out lies and says the whole mask is going to be no longer produced then I get pretty mad.
I may not like the truth but I respect it. WHen I get lied to...I get mean and nasty and won't let my last visit there be uneventful as far as their getting a big piece of my mind and it won't be pretty.
Give ResMed pricing restrictions I expect that the wholesale price is pretty stiff if machines aren't also bought.
So markup doesn't allow for much profit. Most people will understand that and can try to work it out.

Re: Swift FX mask
It's still shown on the ResMed web page. Just says it's not available in all countries.

I'm getting equipment for the first time from my health provider. The sleep dept just wrote a prescription to the DME for an APAP machine and Swift FX
