How old is your machine?

Post by m1k2s3 » Sat Nov 17, 2012 3:44 pm

I am still using the machine I got when I was first diagnosed with sleep apnea so I had it for over 5 years. It got me thinking about how often people change/purchase new machines. Mines working great but how long do these machines last?

What's your experience? How old is your machine?

Mine is 20 months. It is also working just fine. I recently looked into upgrading to the smaller, lighter, more-data s9 and learned my insurance should cover a replacement at 3 years. I'm hoping to do it sooner, but not sure yet how that will go.

My co-worker, who is the only person I know using CPAP (other than from these forums) has had the same machine 18 years and has no desire to change it.

My primary machine is a 1 year old PR System One 550p that I got when I started PAP therapy, I have a 2 year old back-up/travel machine that is also a PR System One 550p (purchased from a wonderful forum member here), and a newly purchased PR System One 560p that at some point down the road will become my primary machine (many thanks to forum member STL Mark; a great deal, a great machine, from a class act!).

I just replaced a machine I had for eight years (RemStar Plus). The one before that I almost had for ten years.

My first one was a ResMed VPAP III. Lasted 2 years. ResMed replaced it. Replacement lasted 9 months. ResMed replaced it with my S9 @4 months ago.

Reply,

What make of machines you're talking about? With Resmed machines the date of manufacturing (which is on the back) is important but not to the last few years. I would say that the S9 series includes features (such as the FOT) for which patents were approved before the year 2000. This reply does not deal with wear and tear.

I have a PR Remstar M-Series that's about ten years old that I use for a backup. It still works great and the humidifier is in good shape, seals-wise and all. Built to last. My main machine is a one year old PR System One 550.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

My is a Resmed S9 Auto, had it for 9 months. Bought it used and it only had about 150 hours on the clock. I paid $550, came with 2 masks, 2 heated hoses and humidifier. The previous one I had was a resmed S8 straight CPAP, ellite. I also bought it use and it had about 25 hours hours on the clock. I paid $150.

My Resmed S8 VPAP Auto is 4 1/2 years old. Most insurances will replace an xPAP at 5 years. I've heard of xPAPs lasting and still running well at 10 and 12 years of age/use. My son-in-law's Respironics Virtuoso LX must be close to 10 years of age now and still working like a charm.
