PB420E - but no hose with pressure line sensor....

Post by n0trab » Tue May 02, 2006 6:33 am

Here's one for the cpap hackers out there....

My DME sent the wrong replacement hose for my PB420E. They sent a standard 6-foot hose, not the one with the pressure line sensor. (I no longer have the old hose.)

I'm ordering a new hose now for delivery tomorrow, from cpap.com. For sleeping tonight, what's the best way to use the 420E with a standard six foot hose? I tried last night two ways -- with and without blocking the sensor port on the 420E itself. (I plugged it with the little 2-inch length of sensor tube, and an end cap, the kind you use when you wash the hose). Either way the 420E quickly realized it had no idea what was happening and reverted to a very low pressure -- just guessing I'd put it at about 4cm, when my therapy needs about 12.

Is there anything I can do to force a better pressure tonight, while I wait for the new hose?

Thanks much.

i wonder if switching to straight CPAP mode would bypass the pressure sensor

I agree with Guest, try switching it to straight CPAP mode and see what happens. Please let us know if this works ok.

I'll try straight CPAP, but the help desk at cpap.com isn't optimistic. Either mode relies on the pressure sensor to regulate pressure, whether it's constant or variable.

I could probably buy oxygen tubing, which I'm told is the same gauge, and bore a hole in the side of one end of the six-foot tube, and thread the rest through the length of the tube to the mask, but this is for one night and I'm not going to do that....

Any other suggestions? Some mode change that would bypass the sensor?

Since the DME gave you the incorrect hose, I would go right back to him and get a loaner machine to match the wrong hose he delivered and he could get them both back when he did his job correctly. Jim

Ditto...if you got your 420E from the DME. And insist they give you an autopap loaner since that's what you're using.

Good points about the DME but DME isn't local (they send UPS) and local vendors didn't have the right tube in stock. So I just figured I'd get it here overnight via cpap.com, and I'll worry about the billing/exchange with DME later.
