I would dump all those nasal pillows masks b/c they ruin OSA treatment.

He says these things because he thinks he knows everything about nothing!

The ResMed Swift LT seems to work well for many people on this forum.

I use the Swift FX. My AHIs are always below 2 and MOST importantly I feel great, not tired, BP is down and my trips to the bathroom at night are 0. So Avi, you may not like nasal pillows but saying
I would dump all those nasal pillows masks b/c they ruin OSA treatment
is just plain wrong.

Well dang- since I have skin irritation issues on my nose bridge with the nasal mask and full face mask- I guess my treatment has been ruined since I switched to nasal pillows - They seem to be working GREAT for me but I could be wrong..my wife says I no longer snore and snort but she must be wrong too

I vehemently disagree with this. I started with a nasal mask, then switched to nasal pillows. My AHI during the titration study with the nasal mask was zero, but I was never able to get that low at home - probably between 2 and 3. Since using the pillows, particularly the Aloha, my AHI has come down to very slightly over 1 or less (untreated, 31). I have completely failed with full face masks, but that is probably because I have a beard. I have a FitLife mask on order from Sears which will be the final test. The only thing I can see wrong with my treatment, though, is that I may need a variable pressure during the night for when I roll onto my back. So, it is nonsense to say that nasal pillow masks ruin OSA treatment.

If you can breathe through your nose, get the right size pillows and adjust them correctly, nasal pillows are the EASIEST mask to use because of the small contact area. Not suitable if you mainly breathe through your mouth, have a deviated septum, or severe sinus congestion, but otherwise an excellent choice for those who can use them.

Avi, please don't make general broad statements like this based on your own particular experience. Others may well experience the same mask differently.

@Budsky - your post popped up while I was writing this, but a big thumbs up to you!

Gosh, I am so disappointed that my OSA isn't treated well with my nasal pillows.
I guess I just have to go get Avi's set up so I can improve on this night.

I would rather be wrong than believe everything I'm told.
Everyone is different--some people are VERY different.
My Swift FX is my second best nasal mask-one I've worn for many months.
Of course, if I had freakishly-shaped nares, that would be another story!

Pugsy, I am jealous - even with the good experience I have had with my pillows, I have never seen this type of chart!! I am now wondering if I need to change the machine for that - so can I say that a basic CPAP will not work for people with severe sleep apnea? We all need an auto machine! I just wish I could stop finding new things that upset my nightly figures! Another sleep doc coming up soon - I have been using the pillows for almost 3 years, now, so I think that qualifies me as a success story?

Happy sleeping to all those with nasal pillow masks. Oh, and to all other x-PAPers out there as well! Whatever works for you is fine with me.

Can't a person make an obvious joke without everyone going all critical?
