It's official - Two CPAP family now

Post by SleepDepraved2 » Wed Nov 07, 2012 7:00 pm

My husband got his Resmed S9 Elite today with the H5i humidifier and ClimateLine hose along with a SwiftFX mask. I got it all hooked up for him tonight with his new hose buddy and CPAP pillow. He's snoozing away at this moment. He definitely felt better after using the CPAP at his second study, so I'm hoping that he will wake up very refreshed. He's atypical bipolar so he tends to have insomnia and odd sleep patterns and the sleep apnea doesn't help with that at all! He's been feeling really dragged out this week, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for him.

We've got two different DME's...he went with Wright & Phillipis and I am still with Lincare. Who still is sending me bills for June for about $125 when they should have billed my old insurance which covered me 100% at that time. I called and left them a message a couple days ago. By my calculations, they owe me $5.53. At least they finally sent me a new mask frame and cushion.

Originally, my husband had had a sleep study at a different lab and it was a disaster. He made it through the first study, but at the titration study they didn't offer him any kind of different masks at all and he could not tolerate the one they tried him on. He called me at 2 AM to come and get him. After I had my sleep study, I told him he should give it another try at the sleep lab I went to and since he could see what a difference it made for me, he decided to give it a try and here we are.

Good news! I'm so glad he's willing to give it a go.

My dad is in denial even tho both my sister and I use cpap. It's so disheartening. Believe me I've used the 2x4 option and told him all the gory details of what could happen if you don't use cpap. And he's already had one small stroke! His sleep doc was NOT helpful. Said he didn't need cpap because his AHI was "only" 11 (25 on his back - hello!!!) So he's getting oxygen to sleep with at night. We're going to take results to his GP and see if she has a different take on things. He has different insurance otherwise I would take him to my sleep center where they treated me very well. So so so frustrating - and sad.

We are a 2 cpap family also. My sister in Indiana has a machine also, but I don't know what brand or model she has. When ever we are on the phone yakking, we start talking about our hoses and all that fun stuff and even talk about funny things that happens like getting tangled up in the hose. Revcently I bought a hose manager thing that you hang the hose on and it came to me damaged. I was going to send it back but decided to make another base for it. Soooo I goes down to the shop and find a hunk of wood about a foot long and flat, then I found a pice of wood about 2 inches by 2inches with a hole already drilled in. I fastened the two together and voila it works! The hose hanger thing wobbles just a little bit but that can be fixed. Any way, make a long story short, I got my machine from Lincare also and I had no problems with them at all tho I wished I had a better sleep study when I had it. Been on cpap for 2 or 3 years now. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay
