First Full Night of Sleep!

Post by Addercatter » Sun Nov 04, 2012 7:03 am

I finally went to sleep at a decent hour with my mask on (10:30 pm-ish), and woke up about an hour ago at 6 am with the mask still on my face! I do not feel tired or groggy at all, which is crazy since I have NEVER been a morning person.

I do have a few issues from sleeping so well. Apparently I didn't change sleeping positions much because i am having horrible pain my left hip. Also, my front bottom two teeth are very sore and have been pushed outward a little bit. One used to overlap the other slightly. Right now they are even with each other. Can the mask and a lot of pressure cause teeth movement?

This is still a wonderful accomplishment for me. I am used to being in constant pain, these are two unfamiliar issues I woke up to this morning. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Kat

I can't help with the dental or hip issues but it certainly is nice to hear that you are getting some sleep! Congratulations!!!

Big congrats! I am very jealous! How long have you been using cpap?

I'm sure more knowledgeable folks will chime in but I'm pretty sure that if you even suspect that your mask is tight enough to cause tooth shifting, it's way too tight! I can't imagine flow pressure causing that either. I'm stumped on that one. Are you sure you're not grinding or clamping your teeth in your sleep?

I cannot imagine anything being tight enough to move healthy teeth in one night.
But if there is soreness...for sure the mask straps are too tight.

I have been using my machine for about 1 week. To be fair, I was super exhausted last night, more so than usual. My daughter and I kept 4 kids ages 7 - 3 overnight Friday until about 6 last night. I'm hoping that's not the only reason I was able to fall asleep so fast with my mask.

Either way, I am grateful to have some energy for right now. I did have to take a strong pain pill for my hip, hopefully it won't make me sleepy. I am determined to find a balance with everything no matter how long it takes

Thanks to all who have been so helpful and encouraging to me! I'm sure I have a long road ahead of me and it's a great feeling to know there are people here who are willing to spend time sharing advice and opinions from their own experiences. Hopefully I too will be able to help someone one of these days.

I feel the same way. I'm always asking for help here but don't know enough to "pay it forward".

Hi Kat,

Congratulations on sleeping through the night. That is a fantastic accomplishment.

Hmm, I thought I was imagining things when I noticed my two front upper teeth were now even with each other when I thought they had previously overlapped. So there could be something to the issue regarding teeth movement.

I hope your pain gets better.

I'm glad I was able to share this experience with you guys. I'm hoping tonight will go just as well.

So there is someone else who noticed tooth movement... It's so weird! My teeth aren't so sore now, but they still feel different. I'm curious to see how they will be in the morning.

Anyone else ever have any weird tooth shifting when first starting therapy?

Not me, but then I could take my teeth out and hand them to you so.....yeah, you can't go by me.

I thank my lovely children for that. Major dental issues after 3 pregnancies...they sucked the life right out of me. Still love them to death of course.

Haha, of course Lorraine! I wonder if I need to get 2 teeth pulled. Ever since my wisdom teeth (slooooooowly) came in, my mouth has felt crowded. Maybe a dentist could remove my two "vampire" teeth. I have always hated them and they have been pushed out further than the rest of my teeth due to the wisdoms.

I was also wondering, if I needed any dental work done due to a medical condition, would Medicare possibly help cover it? I'm very new to Medicare so any knowledge at all would be so appreciated. Thanks, Kat

Most medical insurance usually covers only impacted teeth. No idea about medicare, I'm not old enough for it yet. If I had to venture a guess, it'd be no.
