Did my PRS1 just kick the bucket? How apropos...

Post by Culby » Wed Oct 31, 2012 6:58 pm

This morning, about 10 minutes before my alarm was set to go off, my PRS1 stopped working. After waking up from the alarms (from the machine), I tried restarting it. With my hand on the machine, I could feel the blower try to start, stop, start, stop, start, stop, and then the machine would reset. Start, stop, start, stop, start, stop, reset. It would do this 4 times, then start beeping while showing "Service required" on the screen.

I've had this happen before, but it was usually when turning the machine on. A good powercycle did the trick, and we'd be off and running in no time. After letting it sit all day, it's still a no-go tonight, and it looks like I'll be sawing logs.

I guess I don't have a choice except to call the medical supply company tomorrow, but is there anyone who's A) had this issue crop up, and B) figured out a solution? I'd rather not be without my machine, and I sure as heck can't afford a new one (hell, I still haven't paid off this one!)

Thanks for any help you can provide.

If you are working without insurance, why in heaven's green earth would you get anything from the local clip joint?
I've bought EVERYTHING for over a year now from cpap.com, and I have insurance.
All the charges are unspeakable locally.

i don't know what still haven't paid off this one means. if you are still renting it, they should exchange it. it may be under factory warranty.

If the usual...unplug everything...unplug from electric source for a couple of minutes..then plug everything back in and check connections doesn't do the trick then I don't know what to offer. Check all plug connections including the power supply.
It should have a 2 year warranty which doesn't help tonight though.
Might try removing the humidifier to see if blower will work without it.

It doesn't sound good.

Take out the water tank before fiddling with it.

Check the filter. Look into the air inlet and outlet.

Try a different electrical outlet, maybe even in another room.

Is there any text or number other than just "service required?"

Rattle it around gently an see if anything rattles.

There was a batch of PRS1's that stopped and rest themselves for no good reason. I had one.

Took it away under warranty. they upgraded the software, not sure if they did anythign else. Has worked fine since. If your software is in the 1.X versions, you mgiht want to see if you can get an upgrade.

Regards,
Gerald.

It was a v2.01 machine, but when I took it in to the DME, it misbehaved right on cue. Since it was still under warranty, they just swapped it out with another model (v 3.01? the grey parts are a little darker).

So we should be back in business tonight.

Darker gray? Check the model number on the sticker on the bottom...see if it has a 3 digit number with 60 as last 2 digits.
If it does then you have the latest 60 series machine. Did you get a new humidifier also?
If you are using software then you may find that your software won't work with a 60 series machine if that is what you got.

Nice catch... 460P is the number on the bottom, and SleepyHead won't display the data. Is there an update forthcoming, do you know?

Yes, there is now a patch developed by another 60 series user. Just recently in fact.
See this thread. viewtopic/t83551/SleepyHead-Series-60-Patch-Avail.html

If you can't get it to work or if you want Encore that will work with the 60 series then just send me a private message.
