S.O. - Taping with facial hair and chinstraps
S.O. - Taping with facial hair and chinstraps
Does anyone have any helpful hints on taping of the mouth with facial hair? And, any advice on brands/types of chinstraps? I got one from the DME today that's a Respironics, but I've not seen this type before. It has a soft cup for the chin, and instead of strapping over the head, you Velcro the straps to the top strap of your headgear. It seems like it would pull it down, but maybe not?

I have the Respironics Premium chinstrap, but had no problems with it at all. It was in no way involved with my mask headgear though.
Also have a PapCap Chinstrap, which has a velcro loop to route your tubing over your head, and I liked that a lot.
Can't help you with the facial hair issue, and I get sweaty just thinking about taping my mouth shut.
Cheers,
xena

The chinstraps I've all but given up on. Major comfort issues with me personally. I will possibly revisit them though if I can't get this damn Quattro FX tuned in to stop leaking during pressure increases.
In regards to taping with facial hair, I've been oft tempted to try it but chicken out everytime for the fear of the pain in ripping off half my mustache. I don't know if there is a safe way in these circumstances.

WOnder if they make a brown painters tape. I could see me trimming it off and leaving it hang a bit on my mustache for the next day.grillhead wrote:I might be a guinea pig then... Generic nasal strips fit perfectly over JUST my lips, not above, not below. Might be a solution for you guys!lazer wrote:The chinstraps I've all but given up on. Just got a chinstrap. Absolutely hate it, feels like I have a compression stocking on my face. I may go back to taping.lazer wrote:The chinstraps I've all but given up on. I posted this a while back, I use a fabric swatch on the sticky side of the tape to protect my lips but I wonder if you could instead use fabric strategically placed on your tape to protect at least some of your facial hair --

And lazer, it doesn't have to be floral print -- though to be honest I'm thinking you're gravitating more and more toward the pink & pretty look...

Re: S.O. - Taping with facial hair and chinstraps
I cut about 3" length of 1" wide J&J cloth tape, close my mouth, curl my lips inside,
and stick the tape vertically from right below my nose, down onto my chin.
Oh, I fold both ends under about a quarter inch, so I can grasp an end and peel slowly, leaving my skin intact.
So far, this has worked very well, and my granny whiskers have never gotten caught.

Here is another option. I love them. I don't use chin straps or tape anymore.

Re: S.O. - Taping with facial hair and chinstraps
I use blue painters tape 1" #2080 low adhesion. I tear off a piece about 3" long tighten my lips and stick it on. It sticks to my lips but not to the mustache. In the morning it peels right off. My chin strap is about 4" wide white with ribs in it and velcro at the top. I cut it down in between the ribs to about 3" wide and put it over my swift fx. I toss and turn all night and it all stays in place.

Re: S.O. - Taping with facial hair and chinstraps
I use a Puresom Ruby chinstrap - I have the non-adjustable one, but when I need to replace it I will probably get the adjustable one. It felt too tight when I first got it, but it has stretched or I have adapted to it. I tried taping and/or dental paste - neither seemed to work well. I still have some nights when leaks are all over the place, but I think that is because I move rather than open my mouth.

I've seen where someone on here uses Gorilla Glue brand duct tape. Yipes!

Haha! I'll consider that. To be honest I don't like the floral patterns at all. Just the PINK for some odd reason just "floats my boat".... "Turns me on"... Ok I'll stop now !kaiasgram wrote:I posted this a while back, I use a fabric swatch on the sticky side of the tape to protect my lips but I wonder if you could instead use fabric strategically placed on your tape to protect at least some of your facial hair --
