Heated hose...

Post by wiguy » Tue Oct 16, 2012 6:28 pm

Hey folks..I just wanted to be clear. I called my provider of my machine today about getting a heated hose for my humidifer. I have the 560P a-flex machine.

Everything I read says you can get a heated tube version of the humidifer. She said they dont have a heated tube for it. I told her I saw them online and she said she would have to check. I would like one as I live in Wisconsin and the winters can get brutally dry, and I need the moisture. I am currently using number 5 on my machine and still feel a bit dry in the mornings. I called her at 8:00am this morningand she was going to return my call later on to let me know. I suppose I will call tomorrow after work if I do not hear from her? I also seem to be getting moisture in my mask as well. I can only assume its condensating because we like to keep our room a bit cooler at night.

I just want to be sure that this thing can take the heated tube humidifer. If she says they dont carry it, I saw an adapter kit onlien lastnight and may spring for that if I can afford it.

Thank You.

If you didn't get the heated hose then you probably didn't get the 80 watt power supply either.
As far as I know all the series 60 blower units will accommodate the heated hose humidifier once a person actually gets the heated hose, power supply and the special lid thingy.

Upgrade kit

I don't know if the DME would need to order the conversion kit or each item separately depending on what lid you already have and the power supply you already have.

Yep that is it Pugsy.

I have the standard heated humidifer along with the 60w supply. on the bottom of the cpap it says 60 or 80w supply so I assume thats to accomodate the heated tube. I will call her back tomorrow and see what she says. If not, it maybe an early Christmas present for Matt.

Don't know your insurance situation but there should be a billing code for the heated hose.
Unsure how they go about the other needed stuff though.
I know with the ResMed S9 and the Climateline heated hose there is a billing code for it and Medicare even pays for one.
I think a lot of insurance mimics Medicare's guidelines.

Well I got an update. I called up the DME last week and my lady was gone so I talked to a guy.. explained what I was doing and he was goign to check into it. I followed up Tuesday and she was going check as well, but said I would have to wait until 3 months was up to get the heated tube setup. Its been quiet all week. I was planning to get it on my own.

FFWD to today, I got a call from the guy again. He said the ordered my parts, and they are covered under my insurance. He said he jumped thru some hoops for me to get the stuff since its so new. I missed the call but he left me a message.

My stuff will be in next week! YAY!!!

I bought this. Easy to get setup/install. It works great! I have the same machine.

Main thing....prevent rain out...which is condensation in the hose and mask. While rain out won't hurt you it is highly annoying.
If you have to ask...you haven't had the pleasure yet. Air that is warmer will hold more water so chances of condensation are greatly reduced.

Minor thing...warms the air going to the mask a little more so that you don't get ice cube nose or throat. If bedrooms are cold (wintertime) the air from the room may not get warm enough going through the humidifier to feel comfortable at the nose or mouth area.

ok thanks. I've heard of rain out but never experienced it and probably in my case living further south (San Diego) the temp in the bed room doesn't get cold enough that the humidifier can't worm it up enough. Thanks again for the info.
