Have Lap Band..Need anti inflamitory

Post by LarryPer1 » Sun Oct 21, 2012 10:56 am

Have Lap Band..Need anti informatory for a neck problem but my DR said I can't use Ibuprofen because it will harm the band.
Any other recommendations
I don't need a pain reliever just a informatory drug

Thanks in advance

Talk to a real doctor and your pharmacist.

We aren't doctors... if it were me, I would work with a doctor I trust to get the correct anti-inflammatory. I wouldn't rely on a message board to give me an answer to such an important question.

I have used Lodine when I was banded. You an use ibuprofen...but you really need to talk to your doctor about it. If I used it I would use a time release...so its disolves in the intestines and not in your stomach.

Be careful about the lap band. They're beginning to have a lot of problems in lap band patients now that they've been in use for several years.

yeap, tell me about it. 4.5 years after being banded I had a band slip...so bad could not swallow water! I have to have my band removed. Sad to see if go as it was a good tool....

Doctors insist it will not work, but it helps my arthritis a good bit. AsperCreme, or its equivalent with Trolamine salicylate. Some pharmacies have it on the shelf too long and it is not as effective. Use generous amounts, several times a day besides just before crashing out. Make sure that what you get on your hands, you do not get the smallest amount into your food. I am not big on the other kinds of cremes and ointments, like hot n cold, or the infamous Capsaicin. If it does not violate the rules of lapband food, you can try a greenish banana, at least green on both ends, or the center of Pinapple, which might actually be similar to Ibuprofen, but I like bananas.

Larry, in the near term talk to your Medicine Man. As a long-term fix, give some thought to reducing your gluten intake. Glutens are the proteins found in wheats and grains. This fellow wrote a book on the subject and a surprising number of people with inflammatory conditions have done better by reducing or eliminating gluetens from their diet. http://www.amazon.com/Wheat-Belly-Lose- ... 1609611543 I read the book and I think Dr. Davis is on to something. He contends that the gluten proteins in modern hybrid grains differ significantly from those that our ancestors ate prior to the 1950s, which corresponds to the time the obesity epidemic began. Part of the body's defense against foreign proteins is inflammation. I could go on about it, but if you do a search for gluten on this forum you will find a lot of people who have benefited by paying attention to their gluten consumption.

A dear lady I cared a lot about died a slow, horrible death from some form of weight loss surgery. I'm not sure if it was lap band. They need to stop pushing this stuff like it was something simple and safe like getting a mole removed.

Here's a blog entry from Dr. Eades that you might want to take a gander at.

http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/pale ... with-food/

He references an article about inflammation and diet.

Cliff Notes version:

1. Eating all food results in an inflammatory response.

2. Some foods more than others.
