Does your level of fatique change if you AHI numbers lower but never gets into the "acceptable therapeutic level" as an example AHI 50 but on cpap/xpap you are only able to bring it down to AHI 10? I am still adjusting things but am curious if the fatique level is associated with the AHI numbers. So in case I never get into the lower AHI will I get any fatique relief?
I am not wording this question the way I want to, but I can't find the words.
As of now (1 week on ASV) my numbers are about 9-10 AHI but my fatique is as bad as AHI 41 before treatment! I just have this feeling it is going to be a long road to get my number way down or maybe they never will get there.
ADDED:
2 nights ago, the ASV was serving up some really big pressures (for a long time) and I couldn't sleep that night (felt like I didn't sleep at all) but when I got up in the am, I felt great and didn't get tired at all the whole day, today after feeling like I slept good last night I am utterly exhausted and can't see straight.
Does fatique level change with varying ASV AHI numbers?

I don't know but I can tell you what I discovered when I first started my therapy.
First few nights I felt absolutely like total crap...every bit as bad as I did pre cpap. Once I got the software and check my results...my AHI for those nights was around 10...some nights down to 8.
It wasn't until I got my AHI below 4 that I actually felt some improvement in my fatigue level.
Pre cpap...my AHI was 53/hr in REM sleep....12 or so in non REM sleep but in non REM sleep I had some mighty long events because oxygen levels dropped to 73% in non REM sleep...so the number of events in non REM sleep wasn't bad but the duration was long...so still ugly results.

I was hoping the transition from CPAP to ASV wouldn't be like starting over completely.

I know.... I wish for your sake it wasn't. It's a night by night thing. ASV is a tough beast to master under the best of circumstances and some people whip its butt right from the onset but others have a tough time.jjlady wrote:I was hoping the transition from CPAP to ASV wouldn't be like starting over completely.
Maybe you will feel a little better even with your AHI after you have adjusted a little more to the machine.
You might change your subject title to include the "ASV" thing and JohnBFisher could maybe offer more input. He looks for titles with ASV in them so that his particular area of expertise can be utilized. I don't have any experience at all with ASV machines.
I don't know if I would have felt better with an AHI of 8 if I had been using ASV...maybe I would have...I don't have your problem so don't base everything on what I say in this instance. Your situation is totally different from mine. Some people see a huge difference when AHI is cut in half...some people like me...don't.
Maybe change your title to "Fatigue and ASV and AHI" that will get his attention for sure.
Also would help to know...how many hours you are using the machine (have you got it yet) and how many nights you have used it if you are using it?....how is your overall sleep quality?
Like are you having frequent wake ups? If so, why? Do you know? Anything that might help explain how your body is or will be reacting to the ASV machine.

Re: Does fatique level change with varying AHI numbers?
My personal experience in AHI reduction:
Untreated, my AHI was about 42 in 2008. I tried an oral appliance, which under a sleep study showed a reduction in AHI to about 20.
Subjectively, that felt like about a 10-15% improvement to me in terms of fatigue. It helped, but not a lot.
I think the point at where the AHI is "good enough" just varies for all of us. Some people might feel better at 5, some at 2 or less. For some people the AHI might not even be the most important factor. Sleep is a complicated beast.

Re: Does fatique level change with varying ASV AHI numbers?
I am on ASV for two weeks..... I have had an AHI of 0 every night... (ok 0.3 when I was holding my breath to see if it was really working because I did not believe 0).
I am still fighting sleep disruption..... BUT IT HAS ONLY BEEN TWO WEEKS...
I am using sleeping pills to try and sleep through it. I wake up 3 times I know about, and usually 2 times that the zeo shows.... (but not the 3 I know about )
I have to say, that this week I am a little better.
For example, I was able to stay awake all evening watching TV... that is an improvement
I was able to get up and move some wood around for amy next project that I was planning. (I bought the wood, and unloaded it in the work shop... needed to get it onto the shelves so I had space to work) I am still to tired to work with the power tools in the evening, ( I like my fingers), but maybe soon.
I have not been using the NUVIGIL to make it through the 10 hours of work.... that is better..... but still on 3 DR Peppers before noon to make it.... (I cut myself off at 3, and at noon, which ever comes first )

Wilsonintexas-Did you go from CPAP/BiPAP to ASV? Did your fatique get worse while adjusting to the ASV?
