Burping disturbs my sleep, what should I do?

Post by CatherineF » Wed Oct 17, 2012 1:00 pm

Recently I finally managed to fall asleep after long struggling. But there is another huge problem: burping! I am suffering from LPR (Laryngopharyngeal reflux) caused by hiatal hernia. My stomach is very prone to insufflation. I recently had upper endoscopy done and I know what is going on at least. I am using Bilevel machine (auto bilevel sometimes) and it supposed to be set at (at least) 12/8. But I can't use it at this pressure. Even at 9/5 I have burping! It is weird because I don't have bloated stomach or pain after awakening, just that constant need, urge to burp when I am hooked to my machine. I am using nasal pillow mask along with tape. Burping is diminshed with FFM but I can't manage leaks due to retruded mandible (when I am falling asleep deeply my jaw drops backwards and mask starts to leak-it wakes me up quickly). I don't know what should I do, I've been trying to massgae the hernia back but it is even worse after that. Currently I am doing this trick with drinking hot water and jumping, but it doesn't seem to work either. HELP please...

Are you on any medicine for reflux? If you do a search on burping and reflux you will find a lot of posts. Good luck. Sounds like a real problem.
