Questions about accessing data and pressure settings

Post by kennyjoon » Wed Oct 17, 2012 10:21 am

I am very new to the CPAP world, so I appreciate your patience with me. I have a few simple (I hope) questions:

1. I have a ResMed S9. Am I correct that all I need is to download the ResScan software to access the data on my card? Do I need to register with them in any way?

2. Will my DME know if I read the data from the card?

3. Please tell me if this logic makes sense: I reviewed the titration portion of my sleep study and it seems as though the technician began with a pressure of 4 and increased up to 10 (my ultimate prescription). In total, I was on a level of 10 for 64 minutes (53 minutes of sleep time) during which I had an AHI of 5.6, a mean SaO2 of 96% and a lowest SaO2 of 93 %. There is no indication that any higher pressure was tried. From everything I have read, an AHI of 5.6 is good (particularly compared to my AHI of 31 during the sleep study), but it is not "ideal." Would it not make sense for me to try a higher setting? My intent in accessing the data is to see what it is registering as an AHI. If it is 5 or higher, would you suggest I contact my doctor?

Thanks so much for all of your help!

An update: I have a ResMed S9 escape. I just read that this does not capture API data.

If this is correct, how should I go about evaluating how well the machine is working and/or requesting a pressure adjustment?

It seems to me that a lot of people recomend an Auto machine. I wish I read this before picking up my machine. Is the standard Escape not good? Any suggestions as to how I might make a case for an upgrate?

Thanks so much!

Your only choice for evaluating your therapy is "how you feel" when you use the Escape. Not particularly accurate.

The Escape will provide excellent therapy...just no way to prove it or trouble shoot if you have problems. Can't even tell if you are having bad leaks.

Might want to read this...especially the part down at the bottom.

The S9 Autoset is a great machine...has cpap mode and apap mode so like 2 machines in one. You may or may not like or want apap mode but it is nice to have that option.

Making a case for full data machine....I would harp on leak data...like "how can I tell how bad my leaks are"...kind of stuff.
Some other members may have other ideas.
My own personal one..."simply I want access to full data and I get what I want or I take my business elsewhere." "give me the machine I want or I go find someone who will".
But then...I can be a real bitch sometimes. Fired my first DME before they even showed me the brick they had ordered for me without telling me.
