Worst titration experience EVER!!

Post by TiredMominCanada » Thu Oct 11, 2012 5:44 am

So I tuck the little ones into bed and off to the sleep center I go. They have three people in for studies tonight. I wait an hour and then it's my turn, get all hooked up and taped up (do they REALLY need to sandpaper my legs raw?!!). The other patients take their time getting into bed and finally at 11:00 the lights go out. The machine they have there is REALLY noisy but I'm tired and start to drift off to sleep. At 11:30 the tech comes in to check my machine because the computer stopped reading. She opens the cupboard to check the wires and the room fills with smoke! At the same time I realize most of the smoke is sucking into the machine and into my mask - which I rip off my face! The computer wires were all fried! So at 12:00 I get unhooked and come home to get a few hours of sleep.
Now I'll have to wait another month to get in....GRRRRR

Sorry about your experience. Know that it is worth it, though. If you have sleep apnea, you need to see how bad it is and what a cpap machine can do for you. Spend the time here educating yourself. Best of luck with the next test....

Think you & the others should be at the top of the list for a redo. It is inappropriate to push you back a mo. due to equipment failure. Imho. I'd complain.

Ditto! I would suggest calling your physician and the sleep center -- and asking both to move you to the top of the list.

FWIW, both of my sleep studies were positive experiences. Here's hoping your next appointment goes MUCH better. Make sure you ask for a non-smoking room next time, too.

wow... a fire during your study... that might be a first!

I was so exhausted from my split sleep study last August, I went home & crawled into bed and slept for 4 hours.

good luck

Whoa! that's got me beat for sure.

Is there any way you can have your sleep study done in another city? You mentioned you live in NO. ON.

And as my family says....It would ONLY happen to me!!

It would not be at all inappropriate to request NEW equipment.

You might want to request a sleep pill. It might be more stressful / difficult to fall asleep after this. I would.

When I saw your title I thought, "You'll have to get in a long line to claim that title." I stand corrected. You win.

Just so casual readers don't get the idear it always goes so badly, when the Dude woke me up the morning after my titration study, he said,

"It looks like you slept pretty well. We had your numbers before midnight and [the other guy] and I discussed waking you up and sending you home, but you were sleeping so soundly, we figured we'd just let you sleep the night through."

Drooling with envy...

p.s., Slarty I just noticed your profile -- where are you going to retire to?
