Remind me how to help my poor sore nose...

Post by 2girlsmom » Sat Oct 06, 2012 1:13 pm

Been back on treatment for about a week now and have a bump on the bridge of my nose. I use a Quattro FF mask (I am a horrible mouth breather). I have to have the mask pretty tight to prevent leaks but any ideas you all have for how to help my poor nose are much appreciated. Thanks!

First, put your mask with the full pressure. Tightening to tight causes leaks. This mask works like a hovercraft, it must inflate its skirts to work well.
Second you will want to use a mask liner to help with the leaks and pressure. It is easy to make one out of old t-shirt material - just lay the mask on it, draw around it with and inch or two to spare, cut it out, fold length wise and cut a small triangle for your nose & mouth. fit and adjust triangle size. Copy the shape onto a piece of paper to make a pattern.

Padacheek makes liners of all kinds you can buy.

For short term, I find a blitser bandaid works well (maybe cut it down a a bit)

Your poor little nose needs a kiss;
can you borrow a dog?

Some of us have used Mole Skin, a completely synthetic product, which is sticky on one side with a soft beige fur on the other. Available in the foot care section of grocery stores, and pharmacies. Comes in small sheets, cut out what you need with scissors, adjust was you want.

The Quattro has one of the best, most comfortable cushions out there. You likely are overtightening the mask or have not set the forehead support dial to take enough pressure of the nose bridge.

Are you using the mask check feature on the S9? Try that at night when masking up. Loosen the straps, run the mask check, and tighten the straps until the hissing from any leaks stop. That should be enough to fit the mask comfortably, and avoid the pressure sores.

Also, check ResMed's site or YouTube for some helpful videos on fitting the Quattros.

My SleepWeaver Elan is attacking the bridge of my nose. Finally formed a small blister (ouch). Going with one of these round bandaids for now. Plan on trying it under the mask also tonight.
