C-Flex is a exhalation relief algorithm used on Respironics machines only. It senses breathing patterns and lowers the pressure on exhale by small, very brief increments ranging from 1 (least) to 3 (greatest). Resmed has an equivalent algorithm called EPR that works somewhat differently and only in straight CPAP mode on their autos.
With it off it offers no exhalation relief. Some folks really like it and for them it really helps compliance. Some folks do not like it and other folks believe it causes them to experience "breath stacking" a phenomenon I have not experienced nor do I understand very well so I will defer to their greater understanding.

When you go into the Setup Mode (Clinicians Setup), select CPAP (instead of CFLE) mode. That will shut it off.
