Very first post - Just retired and have started CPAP

Post by RetiredMechEngr » Sat Sep 29, 2012 12:16 pm

Hi all:

Just joined CPAPTalk. Thanks for all the good info.

Retired (male; age 65): July 3, 2012
Started CPAP: July 13, 2012
Found CPAPTalk: Sept. 2012
First ever 'post' anywhere: today!

Would appreciate any help on (free) software for both of the following Respironics System One machines:
1. REMstar Pro C-Flex+; 460P Series (used from 7/13 to next Tues.)
2. REMstar Auto A-Flex; 560P Series (from Tues. on, from new prescription)

Also, can I just move the SD card from the old to the new machine and continue to collect data? Or, do I need to use the new (empty) card in the new machine?

Thanks very much.

Even if the SD card would work in both, I would keep two cards. One with the old data can be used with the Sleepyhead software but the other (60 series) will need the resperonics software.

If you look up the member Pugsy there are links in the profile.

Check your private message box please.

I think you will need to keep the machine's SD cards separate. Encore software will likely have a problem with 2 machine's data on one Card. The machines might not care but I am pretty sure Encore will. Don't mix machines with Encore. I tried that I a while back and totally blew up about 2 years of older machine's data. Gone...poof.

So keep the machine's data separate. 2 SD cards and 2 user profiles.
The 60 series machines will NOT work with SleepyHead just yet and that is what you have (both of them). It is being worked on though. When it becomes compatible you can mix machines in one user profile with SH.
I don't advise trying to mix them with Encore though.

don't mix data on the cards, but you should be able to enter both cards in the same user. when i make a mistake and put one of our cards in the wrong user, it makes 2 entries and i can delete one. i've done it more than once. it won't hurt to try it in the beginning because the data will still be on the cards and you can simply reinstall if all goes wrong.

@Pugsy - As you may recall, I have both the PR System One Pro with C-Flex+ and the PR System One REMstar Auto CPAP Machine with A-Flex.
I tried to combine both under SH. Now I get the the message:

"This data comes from another machine to what's usually imported, and has overlapping data. This new data will override any older data from the old machine. Are you sure you want to do this? Yes or No."

I can't seem to shake off this message now that I've returned to inserting the SD card for the auto.

Yes, mistakenly I combined both cpap and auto under the user name of "Starlette". As you suggested to RetiredMechEngr, it may be best for me to delete everything in SH and keep the cpap under another user name and the apap under Starlette. Am I thinking correctly? *crossing fingers*

@greatunclebill - How would you know the dates that were duplicated?

Dori had the same problem and I don't know if it ever got sorted out.
I have never seen that message and I have 5 different machines listed in my overview area under one user profile.
The problem isn't the mixing of the machines but the fact that SleepyHead thinks that there is 2 separate files for one date for some reason and it doesn't know which one to use.
If you were real careful and knew what to look for you could go in to the P0 (might be P1) folder and delete whichever one was duplicated.
SleepyHead normally doesn't care about mixing of machines. I have my 550 data, the first BiPap Pro data, the BiPap Auto, the VPAP data from the borrowed VPAP and the VPAP data from the machine I bought along with multiple modes all under my one user name and I have never seen that message.

You know since you already have the data in the software I think if it was me I would erase the card or use a brand new card.
You can copy the contents of the SD card to your computer and save it before you erase the card. Have it handy just in case the need ever comes up.

Before I do option two, refresh my memory on option one on how to get to the P0/P1. Would it tell me somewhere that would be obvious where there would be a duplicate?

when you go to the history tab there will be an extra entry. you simply delete the error or read it. there is a delete button that isn't showing in the screenshot. you know which is which based on the therapy start date.

You would need to go to the SD card and find the P Series folder and then open it and look for the P0 folder...P1 folder is started when P0 gets full so you may or may not have a P1 folder. Then you have to go looking for all the file dates...you have to do this with both SD cards...compare one with the other and find the files that are duplicated. I am not even sure this would work.
It might be easier to just get a new SD card or erase one of the cards.

You might also try a new user profile and use both cards to see if the message still pops up. That would mean that there isn't a duplicate file on the SD card and SleepyHead is just confused.
In other words try mixing them again but with a new user profile. Easily removed if it doesn't work.

Am I highjacking this thread? If I am, I'll PM folks.

greatunclebill - You and I have the same machine. I see what you're saying. I don't think you used SH for that data. Did you use Encore?
If you're using Encore for the screenshot, where is it located? Never knew that existed on Encore if that is what you're using.

it's encore. have you used encore basic? first you download your card. then you close the popup that says the data was saved. then then you click the history tab. then click detail to see your detailed data or click the paperclip to see the flow data.

Good afternoon RetiredMechEngr.

I apologized for taking your thread on a slight detour. Hopefully, you've learned something from me too.
I also would like to welcome you to the forum.
Your time frame for starting cpap and joining the forum is great. You'll jump through most of the hoops a lot sooner, yay!
Grab something to drink, relax and read, read, read. There is a lot to learn about OSA, working our xpaps and data in harmony to reach sleep nirvana.
Alot of great folks here and we all learn from one another.
I started my therapy in 2009 (forget about 2008 when I only used it 2 hours a night ) and I'm still learning.

Welcome
Starlette
