Post by Nova15 » Tue Sep 25, 2012 2:58 pm

Hello all,

I'm Nova15 (Patrick in real life).
I'm new in this forum.
I come from Belgium and i search news and a good forum to speak with anothers people who use also a CPAP.
Sorry for my english because i always speak french and a little dutch but i learn english for pleasure, speak with you and for holidays
I work in a cement plant by shift (1 wk morning, 1wk afternoon, 1 wk night 1 wk in rest).
I use a Apap since 21 april 2006 (Epworth at 17; fragmentation index at 41.3 /hour; apnées and hypopnées index 30.5/hour).
It was a Breas APAP PV10i rev4.48 for 21 april 2006 to today.
Now i have a new one: Philips respironics System One REMStar 60 Series Auto CPAP machine ref.: 551P (6.0 to 8.0 cmH2O).
Sometimes i use a hot humidificator when humidity in my room is low.
If you've got some questions, wrote to me.

Have a good sleep

Hello NOVA15 (AKA:PATRICK) Welcome to the forum, you will see this is a great place and there are many, many helpful people here. As for your english its just fine. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have. Also you may want to fill out your equipment in your profile so the experts have something to work with if you have any questions.

Hi Nova15,

Welcome to the forum. Your english is very good. I have also been using a cpap since 2006. I started in December 2006. I don't remember exactly what my test results were but I had mostly hypopneas. I use a respironics M-series cpap set to a pressure of 14. I used to use the heated humidifier all the time. This year I have been sleeping without it or using it with just water but no heat.

I would find it very hard to work different shifts like you do. But I think I'd like the one week off. Do you find it hard to work changing shifts?

Hi,

@ MidnightOwl: Yes it's hard because the shift are for seven days and nights so my body adjusts after three days and then the following change is very difficultthe
For example night start at 22 PM to 6 AM for seven nights, morning start at 6 AM to 14 PM for seven days and at last afternoon start at 14 PM to 22 PM for six days.
exception for the sunday morning i start at 6 AM to 18 PM and the sunday night start at 18 PM to 06 AM...so the sunday in the afternoon shift it's the break.

When i was 25 to 35 years old, it was simple to to this. Jet lag doesn't come to me ( a little in winter!!), but after 40 years old it's very difficult to think and do the job correctly.
My doctors said to me: "Stop the night shift" but i can't because i must work to pay my house and my others 'invoices' (i don't sure 'invoices' is the correct term for "factures" in french to english).

Hi Patrick and welcome to the forum.

The word you were looking for is "bills" and we all have to work to pay them

I sympathize with your shift work. It is very hard on the body. Take care, let us know what machine/mask you get.

Shift are not human, it's for robots. The night it's for sleeping, dancing the wk ...and more
I edit my profile and my machine with all accesories but i can't display and i can't view the machines of others members too.

Where can i activate the display and view?

Hi and welcome
The forum is not showing our equipment profiles right now, there seems to be a bug in the system and they are working on it. If you have filled out your profile, it will show up as soon as they get it fixed.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Hi Nova15, and everyone.

I am new to the forum and recently diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea after a sleep study in a Belgium state hospital. I soon have an appointment for treatment at the hospital with an over night 'fitting' but do not want to end up with an out of date CPAP device. Is this what I will be offered here in Belgium?
I have private medical insurance and so want modern features. I guess this means APAP with data recording? I thought of renting first so I could change machines easier if needed.

Question - does anyone know the best place to rent in Belgium or Europe?

Is it better to buy and if so, where from (living in Belgium).

Does APAP mean you can set it up yourself without a need for another night in the hospital?

Thanks for your advice.

Welcome Patrick! I, too, am new to the forum. I just picked up my BiPAP machine this morning. So, I'm even newer at this than you. Haha! I'll echo something you've already read. There are some great folks here who are always willing to assist. Join in and don't worry about your English. You're doing great!
