Thank You All and Goodbye!

Post by themonk » Wed Sep 19, 2012 6:26 am

I had a long post here but things just got too passive aggressive which was far from my intention so I have deleted it. I do want to thank everyone and wish you all the best in your treatment. thank you all for the help and well wishes. I have my follow-ups in a couple of weeks and will probably post the results.

Best of luck to you, M. Sounds like you're at least still on a road to recovery and willing to seek out some form of sleep treatment... and that's a good thing.

Be well,

Z

Good luck and from time to time let us know how things go with your new plan of attack.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Good bye and good luck to you. Make sure that they have it right this time... snoring or waking up in a sweat during the night are indicators of apnea. Hope you never see any of this.

Wow, monk -- I'm really happy for you. I would rather get rid of my SA diagnosis than win the lottery and that's saying a lot in my case ! Best wishes to you as you move on with your life, I think you wrote a very nice, gracious good-bye message.

Good luck. One warning though. Just because you don't have apnea now doesn't mean you won't develop in in the future and need CPAP then. Be sure to not mentally rule it out and ignore it if it comes up in the future.

Also the people that have cleared you, 180ed the dianosis they gave you, for me that doesn't count for much. I trust them almost as much as our Government. Jim

Strong point.

Is your new diagnosis the one you need, or the one you want?

Not particularly a strong point, actually. I would prefer to be normal so this doesn't do me any favors beyond giving me something more specific and accurate. I still have sleep breathing issues that have to be addressed and I have a LONG road ahead. Honestly, one that is likely longer than had I just had apnea and could get along with PAP. That would be much easier and much cheaper. So, no one did me any favors. Plus I am likely on my own for paying for treatment now since my results were so mild they won't be covered. Cake, anyone?

So, please save the fear mongering. Honestly, I don't need it right now. None of us are expert's on anyone else's health, and frankly, too many generalizations are made about sleep breathing issues as it is. This is not a one size fits all disorder and the treatments shouldn't be either in my opinion. I now feel more comfortable with where I am, what is going on, and how to effectively treat it. But that doesn't mean things are going to be easy. Remember that I am 20 years younger than most people here and my issues are in no way related to weight. That means I am going to have to deal with this for a LONG time and watch my health much closer than your average joe. Adding 10 lbs could be enough to push me into apnea, from what I have been told. That is a knife's edge.

I am still, as I wrote, under the care of two sleep docs, including a diplomate and one trained at Stanford. This is VERY far from over for me. It just likely won't involve a PAP machine since there are more effective treatments for me.

So thanks to those who offered well-wishes and I hope this clarifies things for those passive/aggressive sorts.

Yeah? Like what? CPAP is the gold standard for sleep disordered breathing. There really is nothing else that treats sleep disordered breathing to the level properly titrated CPAP or BIPAP will do. Weight loss if needed certainly can help SDB, but not everybody with SDB is overweight.

Dental device? Its better than nothing, certainly. But again it is not the gold standard for SDB. CPAP/APAP/BIPAP are the gold standard.

Good luck.

Eric

Yeah? Like what?
You are very misinformed if you think PAP is the only effective treatment. I encourage you to read the research publications. Honestly, the amount of ignorance around this is extremly troubling.

And I answered that question in my first post - deviated septum fixed, allergies treated, positional therapy, oral appliance. This is the standard protocal for my type of issues. PAP is most definitely an option and one I would consider if these don't address things. I might now have to buy one outright but that is ok. I am willing if these other options don't work.

Intriguing.
That wasn't worded well. I actually meant an oral appliance to give me a little more room. In other words, mild advancement. I have already had an endoscopy and they didn't find anything anatomical issues in my throat so hopefully just a little more room along w/ the other things will be enough. If not, plan C.
