who's job is it???

Post by woodmizer5 » Thu Sep 13, 2012 9:19 am

I have been fighting masks for over 2 years and can not get one to fit properly. I have changed drs. , the dr. I left had masks that I could try but decided to leave him because he said my problem was from implanted pain pump and suggested many times to reduce the pain medicine and that is not possible. Since this was his main solution, decided on new dr. , but this dr. says that he does not have masks for me to try and says that it is the Medical Suppliers job to give me masks to try.
Can anyone please tell me whose job it is to have the option to try different masks till i get one that will fit and give me a complete nights sleep with out leaking and sores.?????
thank you very much.

Normally it is the DME (medical equipment supplier) who has the job of working with you to find a suitable mask.
They will normally carry the inventory needed to let a person try any number of masks.
Unfortunately they aren't required to carry every single model out there to offer as a demo.
Doctor's don't have a clue about what mask to suggest or use and other than providing the actual order for a mask, pretty much they don't do anything about mask choices.

If you want help here from members with experiences with various masks you can tell us which ones you have tried and what the issues were and maybe get some ideas to help you with the mask you are trying to use now.
Sometimes it is fitting issues and sometimes maybe adding a mask liner will make a mask usable.
But we can't offer ideas until we know what masks you have tried and what issues there were.

its actually your job. The mask fit and comfort is very individual to each person. Keep trying until you find a mask that is comfortable.

I don't use a full face mask as I am not a mouth breather. I use Swift FX or Swift LT. Most people start with nasal or nasal pillow masks unless they just can not tolerate them or are a mouth breather and chin strap does not work.

So I would say keep trying different masks until you find the best fit. Also Mask liners and barrel cozys make wearing the mask more comfortable.

msradar65 is correct. It's yoour job to find the right mask for you. The DME supplier is there to help you find solutions but you have to initiate the contact. I tried several until I found the right one. At least with Resmed you can try a mask for up to 30 days with no obligation to purchase. I'm sure most other mask manufactures offer the same try before you buy policy. But you have to do the legwork and get things moving. No one will do it for you.

Yes it's your job. Only you can find the correct answer, AND you will have to learn to make due with limitations, we all do.

Use the software for your machine to provide data to make choices, spend time here reading apply what others have learned to your needs.
