sore nose problems

Post by pudzzy » Mon Sep 10, 2012 1:14 pm

am a new user been on the program for about a month but have been off more than on . I live in Canada & am on a trial of masks for at least another month .
I am going for operation next month so need to get my CPAP right before then as I will be waking up in ICU & they have to put it on for me. I'm getting very frustrated & depressed.. I lost my daughter to cancer last year ,now I need operation & now sleep apnea & I also suffer from asthma & COPD

I started with a full face mask but because I have asthma I needed to keep taking the mask off . I went to a trueblue W/HGR Dom UI couldn't keep it on all night as it hurt my nose . I have long narrow nose. I know everyone says that the provider should keep trying masks but this place doesn't seem to have many . I don't like the idea of a nasal pillows . I have had to take my mask off for many nights because of a sore on the bridge if my nose . I tried things that stick to the bridge that where mentioned in this forum but because I have tender skin I peeled the skin off my nose taking them off .
Last night I tried the Profile Lite Nasel Gel Mask Socked it in hot water It was comfortable when I had it loose . Well this mask leaked all night . I pulled it tighter in the night now I have sore nose again .

I guess my question is .What can I do about the nose problem? TOO tight a mask it hurts .Too loose it leaks .I'm so upset & want this to work before surgery

So glad to see this forum i have read a lot here ( lots to read Lolol) THANKS EVERYONE Glad to see Im not alone

If you don't think nasal pillows are an option for you, then I would suggest trying a SleepWeaver Elan mask. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/sleepw ... -mask.html. This mask is a nasal mask made from a soft fabric - a little like parachute material. It's extremely comfortable for any sleeping position.

I have the version before this latest new and much improved one, and love that one and can't wait to get the new one. The mask won't put any pressure on your nose whatsoever, is easily washable and dries in a very short time. The ONLY hard part of this mask is where it attaches to your tubing.

If you do decide on this mask, I would also recommend the FeatherWeight tube that goes with it - makes a big difference to the comfort as the regular tubing tends to pull the mask down a little.

Cheers,
xena

I sometimes have the same problem ,what I do is I slap a band-aid across the bridge of my nose so that the pad area is on the sore spot after a few days the spot goes away and it does not interfere with the operation of the mask . I also will rotate between 2 or more different types of masks, I keep all of my old masks even those that did not prove to be keepers

Cautiously I just recently switched back to this very mask as the Swift FX pillows were producing a small bleeding cut on the inner edge of my left nare which I couldn't seems to resolve with either Lansinoh at night or neosporin during the day. Luckily a rather brisk tightening of the lower straps on the Elan has seemed to take the top (eye area leakage) away which had given me red-eye for a few days along with irritation.

Oh, the battle to find the perfect mask....

after using the cpap everynight since diagnosis about 6 weeks ago, I gave up and tossed in the towel last night after an hour of sleep because of the pain and the bleeding in my left nostril. I use a swift FX nasal pillow but i need to tape my mouth shut and wrap my head because it seems when asleep I'm determined to breathe through my mouth. Luckily a full face fisher paykel forma mask arrived this morning - if it doesn't work ( and the resmed mirage full face didn't work at all for me - didn't lower my ahi numbers at all) I have no clue what i will do next. I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your daughter. Outliving a child just seems too cruel. I've worked for 30 years in cancer research, i wish the government would fund the "war on cancer" like a real war with trillions of dollars rather than like a joke war with bake sales, pink ribbons and walks through town. I turned to stoic philosophy years ago to deal with depression and the miseries of life and it has served me well. Good luck

Yep, I remember saying that exact same thing. Oddly enough, nasal pillows are now my preferred therapy delivery system, and easily the most comfortable. Some people just can't handle masks straddling their noses. Anyway, good luck with the mask tests but feel free to come back and ask some questions about nasal pillows if the masks fail...especially if you get 3/8" ulcers on your nose that take three weeks to heal... like I did.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
