Good Progress

Post by NeNeen » Tue Sep 04, 2012 12:04 am

I just completed my second week on my CPAP. The first week was tough. My nose hurt and my nostrils were stinging after about two hours. Well I adjusted the pillows and headgear and the pain on my nose went away. But the stinging was still there. We tried reducing the humidifier settings and not using O2 in my concentrator. Nothing seemed to work. So I finally called the doctor and asked him to reduce the pressure. So he called the DME and she came and and adjusted the settings.

It has been great. No more stinging or pain. I am sleeping thru the night usually around 6-8 hours. Plus I am not tired during the day or taking naps. Also, I seem to have a little more energy. Hoping this improvement continues because I look forward to try and do some exercise in the future.
Getting my CPAP machine was the best thing ever. I call her my BFF.

It's not unusual that you have to "tweak" your settings. I am constantly "tweaking" something. Glad to see you are adjusting real good. Best of luck!

It's good to tweak if you're stuck as long as the results are desirable and your numbers improve. Since you are feeling better, sleeping more, more energy, and less pain, then I'd say you are on a successful path!

It's also a good thing if your doctor is involved in the tweaking... not that doing it on your own is bad and I don't mean to give that impression. It's just better IMO for an SA patient to have changes monitored through a competent doctor or on their own with sleep data software.

I am happy the change in pressure worked for you and here's to continued success!!!

When/If you do get that stinging and/or pain, redness, ect... in your nostrils, Try some of that Lansinoh (you can get it in the baby dept @ Walmarts or Pharmacy's) - It's nipple cream for breastfeeding momma's but safe and effective in reducing that painful redness and irritation you first get and may even get later on when using nasal pillows. Just a small dab distributed thinly around your nares and even just inside them will do the trick!

Good luck
