Comfort Lite 2 Help Needed

Post by kevder » Wed Apr 19, 2006 7:33 am

I'm having some problems with my new CL2 and was hoping that some of you may have some suggestions. I haven't been brave enough to cut the elbow off YET (got to give it to restedgal on that one). I'm trying real hard to like this mask. It is very comfortable and (IMHO) much quieter than the Swift.

I've been using the CL2 with the large pillows for a bout a week and a half. I have a BiPaP set to 11 / 7.5.

Here is my problem. Everything appears to be working great when I put the CL2 on at night. No leaks, very comfortable, and quite. After a couple of hours, I wake up with the thing leaking around the pillows. I try reseating the pillows, making adjustments, etc. Sometimes I fight with it for well over an hour all without any success. I usually switch back to my Swift around 4:00 AM. The Swift is OK but for me, it is much louder and not nearly as comfortable.

The next night I will set everything up in an attempt to make any necessary adjustments. I may make a few minor adjustments but usually find that everything is working great... and the cycle starts all over again.

The only problem that I can identify is that on the pillow assembly, the soft pillow cushion will sometimes pull loose form the hard plastic. This causes a leek just above the nose. This happens occasionally and does not explain the problem every night.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I think the fly in the ointment with the Comfort Lite 2 is that the bellows part of the pillow does not bellow enough. If you compare the pillows on the CL2 with the Breeze, you will notice that the Breeze pillows are able to flex somewhat moreso than the CL2 pillows. I think that this flexibility allows the Breeze pillows to tolerate more lateral movement without allowing leak than does the CL2.

The pillows on the CL2 look alot like the Swift pillows in their design. This problem of leak caused by lateral pressure (laying on your side) happened alot when I used the Swift. It seems to be happening somewhat for me when I use the CL2.

I think that the CL2 would be a great interface if the pillows had an additional bellow built into them so that they functioned more like the Breeze pillows. Otherwise, I find the headgear to be very comfortable and pretty good for stability. Certainly better than the original CL.

Two things -

I did have a leak from where the pillow assembly attaches to the small down tube which I solved with plumbers tape over the down tube joint. That leak hit me right under the eyes and was very annoying.

When I use the angle adjustment to hold the pillows tight against my upper lip (sort of equivalent to the Headrest rubber band tweak) I get no pillow leaks.

I have to do the same thing but I wonder why is the pillows were made to be tilted so far rearward so we have to use our head to push it forward to line up with our noses?

Never underestimate the power of a strategically placed cut-off leg from pantyhose tights -- soft, slightly thicker stretchy material than regular pantyhose.

Tie it behind head with a double start knot (click here.)

Place the homemade strap around the head to give a leeeeetle bit more support to hold the nasal pillows in place all night. Works wonders.

nice to know that I am not crazy. I just got my CL2 and had the same leak problem. I called respironics today and they said that maybe the nasal pillow was a defect, but I think not. Whoever I spoke to reads the posts here and hopfully will see this one. (they are aayre of everyones complaints about the elbow on top). Tonight I was going to put a pice of duct tape on it and see what happens, wish me luck..............
