What's the lightest weight nasal mask?

Post by kaiasgram » Wed Aug 22, 2012 9:02 pm

I'm still trying to settle on a backup mask for when I can't use my nasal pillows. The bridge of my nose gets very unhappy very fast when something sits on it, so FF masks are even more weight on my nose. And the Total face mask I tried was a scream, out of control unstoppable leaks . So you seasoned nasal mask wearers, what is the softest most lightweight nasal mask out there?

well I have one and it is pretty light. it is called the Swift FX. I don't use it much though as I am a side sleeper and it leaks when I roll from side to side drives me nuts. I use my Swift LT for her everynight. It is lightweight too and you can watch TV or read a book with it on too as it has miniumal headgear.

Hope this helps---
Carrie

K, I wish I could tell you. The only other mask I have used besides my OPUS 360 was that albatross they strapped to my face during my sleep study titration. I much prefer the small and lightweight gear as well.

Yeah, I prefer my nasal pillow mask (I'm using both Aloha and Bella) by a country mile, but I know I'll need an alternative for when I have a cold or the inside of my nose is particularly irritated by the pillows -- which does happen sometimes. Too bad you don't have the name of that albatross, so could be sure to avoid that one!

Thanks Carrie, but the Swift FX is a nasal pillow mask (I actually have it and do use it sometimes) -- but I'm asking about a regular nasal (over the nose) mask for when I can't use the pillows.

Kaiasgram

I have only tried three the Resmed Activa and the Activa LT. Both are nasal masks very similar, the cushion is the same and is like a bellows system, for me it is good to keep leaks in control. I tried also the ComfortGel nasal.

Would say the LT is better for somebody with a high nose bridge since I have problems to adjust it, I need to put it at the end of the adjustment and still.

The problem I see is the straps are similar to the ones for the FFM, it could cause problems to your scalp.

The cushion is not small at all and the mask I don't think is the lightest in the market but still it's lighter than the Comfort Gel from Respironics.

The Flexifit HC407 looks small. I can't tell which would be the best I only tried the Activas and the ComforGel, I use the Activa because it allows me to turn all around and even sleep on my belly because of the bellows type of cushion which is very good to keep the seal.

All the best

Rosie

The Resmed Mirage FX is the lightest nasal mask I have seen. It barely feels like you have anything on your face at all.

I have the Mirage Micro, which is a pretty small mask. It's lightweight too. I tried a lot of masks and this one didn't feel like it took over my whole face.

You couldn't do better than the SleepWeaver mask for a lightweight nasal mask - there's nothing lighter or more comfortable. I have the previous version but it seems the newest one, the elan has many improvements.

Cheers,
xena

Pilairo™ Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask
Image
A single size, a single strap, a light touch: this describes Fisher & Paykel's Pilairo. Standing out among other nasal pillow masks, the Pilairo has one size designed to fit most faces. Inspired by the hummingbird, the Airpillow Seal "hovers" over the nose with support from a mask base which does not touch the face, limiting contact and pressure points.
Image I'm sure there is a thread with many users commenting on the Good features & even the bad.

Definitely the Sleepweaver Elan - in my not so humble opinion! It's the lightest because there is very little plastic. The only plastic part is the connection to the hose. NO nose rubbing. EXCELLENT for side sleepers. Cpap.com has a $0 return insurance so you can try it for free!! <end commercial - no I don't work for SW or Cpap.com!>

Hi Carrie, I wrote a reply last night but the forum site went down. The Aloha is my numero uno mask, I just have to take breaks from it because I have a sensitive scalp that gets irritated by mask straps on the back of my head (that's not specific to the Aloha though). I'm trying to get used to the Swift FX pillows now so I can use the bella loops and give my scalp a break. The FX pillows are not as comfortable for me as the Aloha pillows (though the bella loops work surprisingly well). I would not be surprised if you find that you love the Aloha.
