Anyone know how long a prescription for a cpap machine is good for?
Re: prescription
It may be up to the DME....Mine is 3 years old and the DME has not asked for an update, but I was talking to a different DME and they would require a new one if I was to switch.

Mine is a year, per my DME, but THEY contact my neurologist for a new one.

Re: prescription
I know my situation is different, but even when I was on straight cpap/bipap, I was told ONE year as well. My DME also contacts my doctor when a new prescription is required.

"A cure! There MUST be a cure;"

Nice way to feed the denial. . .
(well, there are upgrades, and miracles; but what line do I stand in for the latter?)

Re: prescription
This is what Medicare says about prescriptions for CPAP.
A routine refill prescription is not needed. A new prescription is needed when:
•There is a change of supplier
•There is a change in treating physician
•There is a change in the item(s), frequency of use, or amount prescribed
•There is a change in the length of need or a previously established length of need expires
•State law requires periodic prescription renewal
So if your State says a prescription expires after 1 year than you need a new prescription every year unfortunately.

Canada...I can't say anything nice, so I won't say anything at all.

Depends...........kenny121 wrote:Anyone know how long a prescription for a cpap machine is good for?
With online sellers like CPAP (dot) COM, unless there's actually an expiration date or limiting condition written on the Rx, there is no expiration.
Go to their website and read their FAQs about prescriptions.

My clinic told me that here in Minnesota, a prescription is only good for 1 year, and it cannot be renewed without an office visit. Now that the on-line places are forced to require prescriptions, the office visit turns out to be the most expensive part of the game (at least it was when I was self-pay).
