Do you rely on your DME or perhaps a sleep specialist or GP?

Post by marydye » Sun Aug 19, 2012 8:20 pm

Just wondering when you encounter problems such as not sleeping well and other issues with your CPAP do you mainly rely on your DME? Or do you perhaps have a sleep specialist that follows your progress? My GP wrote out my prescription and I am wondering if I should be seeing a sleep specialist with problems before I give this thing up?

What kind of problems?
You name it; someone here has had it.
Oh, by the way, welcome!
Edit: I see you are not that new--still, ask away!
If you need to see a sleep doc, we will tell you.
If it's something else, we can usually help.

Without hearing what the problem is, my first reaction would be talking things over with a sleep specialist. They shouldn't have quite as much commercial interest as a DME, and have more specific knowledge from education and experience. I know that my sleep doctor is really good, very helpful, and willing to talk about problems most any time. He hit it about right on the first time with what he prescribed for me, and says that happens quite a few times, but not always.

I suggest you go back to this thread that you started. 15 people responded to help you, and you went and started another without even replying to them.

As much as we berate the bad DMEs, they can often be a great help. They've dealt with the nuts and bolts of a lot of patients.
