1 hr use per night

Post by juggernaught » Fri Aug 17, 2012 7:14 pm

All hello, I am literally at the end of my hose. I weigh 180 lbs and have no ENT issues. I have a System One RemStar Auto with A-Flex (560P). This little machine is awsome. ThE biggest problem I have had is that I cannot sleep with it on for moer than average an 1hr and 16 minutes. My wife says I rip it off in my sleep. When I wake in the morning I have no recollection of having taken the mask off. I started out with nasal pillows. I figured that was a problem so I asked for a nasal mask same issues just harder to get off. I have sleepyhead soft ware but as I have read it dosent work with my machine. I have copy of the old phillips software but I don't have an old enough operating system to use it. It should not take months to "get used to the machine" I have tried every setting on this machine I currently use it with out the humidifier.........Heeeeeeeellp

Can you give us more info? Which machine do you have? Which mask are you using? You can add this to your profile in the user control panel (below the search bar).

Then, tell us your settings and what kind of problems you are having. For example, do you fall asleep easily with it? Do you remember anything at all about pulling it off? Has your wife seen you pull it off? Can she tell you anything about what you were doing? Did you say anything or do anything that would give a hint as to what problems you are having with it? Has she heard it leaking?

Once we have an idea of why you are taking it off, we can figure out what needs to change so that you are more comfortable and not trying to get it off.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Try it with the humidifier. The moister air will be much more comfortable. Use only distilled water in the water chamber.

If you are still ripping off the mask, try a chin strap or ace bandage temporarily; wrap it around your headgear in such a way that there is no way you'll get the mask off without waking up.

If you've been at this for months, yes, I would think you'd have gotten past taking the mask off in your sleep. There's little tricks to try to help keep it on. For me, I tried bandaids so that the pain of removing them would wake me enough to realize what I was doing and stop. When the mask comes off and you sleep all night without it, it's prolonging the adjustment period. What would be helpful to determine is if you are having events that your pressure is not sufficient to resolve expediently, and that suffocating sensation is causing you to remove the mask. If you can figure out that the data verifies therapeutic treatment, you may have to play tough with yourself and figure out how to cause enough discomfort or pain on removal to help your brain learn to avoid that action. Just don't make any additions to you mask or headgear that can obstruct the exhalation vents or that could cause damage to the mask if you pull too hard in your sleep.

true, sleepyhead does not work with the new 60 series machines, which your 560 is. encore basic will work with it. pm Pugsy for a link to encore basic.
