Eye-fi for CPAP Machines?

Post by davelikesbeer » Wed Jun 29, 2011 1:33 pm

Has anyone ever tried using an Eye-Fi SD card (wifi enabled) with a CPAP machine?

I thought it would be really convenient to have my machine automatically upload the data "to the cloud" so it could be accessible from anywhere. Of course, it would then be nice to have a good front end to make all the reports and plots.

They also have Eye-Fi cards that have GPS. This could be useful to automatically set the timezone on the data files.

I thought somebody had started a thread on this, if I remember it didn't do the right data files transfer. Jim

Eye-fi brand cards turned out to be no good. The Eye-fi cards are set up to hook you into their web based service and are specific for camera files. They aren't generic wifi devices and didn't seem to be able to transfer the files used for CPAP.

Someone else makes a different wifi SD memory card that didn't seem to be so limited, but I don't think anyone here has tried them.

Both types of cards are rather expensive.

The newest eye-fi cards can do direct transfer if set up to do so, for instance, to an ipad or computer without involving their service, but I will have to review the details as they are not fresh in my mind. I have been a fan of their products since my first card in 2007.

Looks like you are right, I will have to keep my eyes open though to see what else turns up. I just love using the ad-hoc network on my pro card to upload to my desired device and think how great it would be to have that functionality for my CPAP machine.

Will it do it for non-picture files? Another gripe the person who tried it had was that you could only transfer certain file types.

It griped me that it didn't simply show up as another drive on your computer just like a regular SD card does.

The unit (hardware) was perfectly CAPABLE of being used as we hoped, but had their software programmed to only select ".jpg" files. No other file type even appears on the display - unless you pay the higher price for their "Pro" version. The difference? Pro would also display and transfer ".RAW" files - if you use RAW photo files, you must be a pro, right?

Ripoff. I'd love to get my hands on their source code. I bet it would do exactly what we wanted if we *deleted* a few lines of code and rebuilt the app.

Maybe I will email them, would be interesting to hear their response. I bought the pro not for raw file capability, but for the ad hoc network capability.
