PR System One Humidifier Tubing Outlet Connection?

Post by J-Mac » Mon Aug 13, 2012 9:05 pm

I'm using a new PR System One 50 Series machine with heated humidifier. Every time I disconnect the tubing for cleaning I know I am close to breaking the doggone elbow where the tubing connects. It seems there should be a quick disconnect fitting there to allow an easier way to disconnect/reconnect the tubing to the humidifier outlet. My previous machine - an M-Series A-Flex - had a sturdy straight connection that was at least a little easier. But the PR System One has a fairly thin plastic elbow instead and trying to pull/twist the tubing from it takes a lot of torque.

Is anyone using some kind of quick disconnect fitting there? Something like the elbow that connects the tubing to a Quattro FF mask?

Thanks!

Jim

I wipe a little glycerine inside my connectors periodically so they are easier to disconnect.

I never had any problem pulling a hose off of mine once I figured out the correct technique. Don't try to pull it directly off or use an unscrewing motion. What you need to do is sort of lever it off.

It may be a little hard to visualize, but try this:

  1. Use your mask to practice on, it's easier to hold and visualize to get the technique. The technique works for either end of the hose.
  2. Hold the mask with your right hand such that the tube is horizontal in front of you with the hose going off directly to the left parallel to the floor and at a 90 degree angle to your line of sight.
  3. Grab the hose with your left hand.
  4. Place your first finger on top of the end of the rubber fitting on the end of the hose. Your finger should only touch the hose fitting, not the mask.
  5. Put your thumb on the bottom side of the hose connector. Put your thumb as far to the left away from the mask as you can while still having it rest on the connector, not the thin part of the hose.
  6. Do NOT squeeze. You want the rubber fitting to stretch out and open up as you start to move it.
  7. Now, hold your finger stationary, and pivot around it, moving your thumb and the bottom part of the hose connector to your left. If you do this motion for 90 degrees, the hose will be running vertically with the open end of the hose pointing to the ground.
If you do it right, there's very little stress on the mask fitting.

Once you get the idea, you can do this at any angle. The important part is to not squeeze, and to lever one side of the hose off to break it loose.

Thanks, but... I'm not having a problem at the mask; it's the connection at the humidifier. PR System One has a plastic swivel elbow on top of the humidifier that just doesn’t feel very substantial. Straight pulling doesn’t do it, and neither does twisting it. Like you said it has to be rocked back and forth a bit, but I don’t know that the plastic part will tolerate that for very long. My Quattro mask has a quick disconnect fitting that allows easy removal of the tubing; it would be nice if the same sort of fitting were available for the humidifier connection.

Thanks again!

Jim

i don't recall anybody saying that they broke the connector off or that there was a problem with it. don't look for any modification to the equipment any time soon. if you're worried, be gentle with it.

I'm using the same humidifier and I thought the same thing about that elbow at first, it's flimsy and may break. I don't push my hose on very far at all, maybe 1/4 inch or so. There's no need to push that sucker on very far to get a good seal.

I believe Archangle was telling you to use the mask to practice on for disconnecting the hose.

Oh. If that's the case then I didn't realize it - guess I'm not that perceptive!

Thank you.
