Re: POLL: Which type of mask is your primary mask?
I selected "Other" since Hybrid FFM wasn't an option. Took me 5 different masks before settling on the Mirage Liberty. (Rest in pieces, cpaplibrary mask trial program)
When in doubt, open the case. Remember: If you can't open it, you don't own it!
Prescribed APAP range - 6-10 cm/H2O, titrated at 8.
Current range - 9.0-11.5 cm/H2O - still searching for the magic "zero night" but averaging 2.2 AHI

I must abstain. (keeping my options open)
I don't even know which one I will wear tonight.

Froggy....you remind me of all those old surfing movies where everyone was searching for the perfect wave. I hope you find your nirvana.chunkyfrog wrote:I must abstain. (keeping my options open)

It is a kind of Zen thing with me.
So far only one full face mask works for me--but that gets so old.
With my other masks, I have to tape--I hate most chin straps.
Yes, that perfect wave. Speaking of which, my hair is never perfect either.

Re: POLL: Which type of mask is your primary mask?
there should be a category for hybrid.
switched back to mine until I get a better chin strap. The ruby or whatever I last ordered is hurting the top of my head.

What's the difference between Nasal Pillows and Nasal Prongs ?
are prongs just the air tube for supplemental Oxygen that you see everyone in the movies at the hospital, using ?

I answered "nasal pillows" too, as those are my definite preference, but I have been known to use a FF mask, and a nasal mask (the Elan). I think that means I sleep around.

Re: POLL: Which type of mask is your primary mask?
Looks like this thread has been reborn. I posted a similar poll and when someone resuscitated this one, I deleted mine. This one is MUCH better because it has so many more data points. Interestingly, my gut feel over the percentage of FF masks has been shown to be true. I had said somewhere between a third and a half. When I first started CPAP therapy, FF masks were almost non-existent.

CF, look at the poll as a gamer looks at their characters they created. "Which is your 'main' mask?"chunkyfrog wrote:I must abstain. (keeping my options open)

Some reason I thought I already answered this thread. For me:
Main: Hybrid - FFM
Alternate: Swift FX for Her - Pillows
Alternate: Aloha - Pillows
I adore my Hybrid for the simple fact that very little wind touches my face, just around a small area of my mouth and in my nostrils. Neat and tidy

There are actually prongs that do go up inside the nostrils much further than the little cone portion of a nasal pillow.mike95490 wrote:What's the difference between Nasal Pillows and Nasal Prongs ?

https://www.cpap.com/cpap-masks/nasal-p ... p-mask.php More than one kind offered.
Zoom in on the picture of the prongs to see what they look like.

I actually did try a couple of models back in my mask experimenting days and the cpap auction allowed me to find cheap experiments. The Nasal Aire II above and the Freestyle. There isn't much room for forgiveness or an in between size need. I ended up needing an in between size. I forget which size I needed but one size was almost perfect but not quite and if it doesn't fit just perfect it doesn't seal well. The next size up was too big and they do hurt if it is too big.
I sometimes see newbies talking about the nasal prongs but I think that they are referring to the nasal pillows. The prongs are probably not a mask model that a DME would give out to a newbie. They aren't nearly as easy to get used to but there are people who just love them... We have a forum member who used to have such a perfect leak line with them that every time he would brag about them I would threaten to sneak over to his house and poke pin holes in them.

Re: POLL: Which type of mask is your primary mask?
My RT let me try a variety of masks before I settled and went back to my first pick, only because it was the one that they used during my study and seemed to use the lightest strap pressure to keep a seal. I tried nasal pillows, and within five minutes, my nose was sore.
I was surprised that I didn't have any problem keeping my mouth closed with a nasal mask, as I have been a mouth breathing sleeper because I had trouble breathing through my nose. So far, I just loose it a couple times a night, and its such a weird sensation, that I correct it very quickly.

I love the Mirage FX nasal mask. Could never find good nasal pillows. Why ? The turbulent noise, nostril pinching, straps pulling up on cheeks, leaks, etc. With the Mirage FX, have none of those issues.

Because the topic is contemporaneous and relevant.
