Charge for a Amara FFM Replacement Clip??

Post by Moondawg » Sat Aug 04, 2012 2:20 pm

I was cleaning my headgear on my new Amara FFM with baby shampoo in warm water like a good boy, and the left plastic clip that holds the gear to the mask falls in the sink and is eaten by the running garbage disposal. What are the chances that my DME will give me a replacement clip Monday?? What are the chances they will even have one?? Thoughts most apreciated. (No good deed goes unpunished) Thanks as always.

Why in the hell would you be washing your mask in the kitchen sink with the garbage disposal running? To answer your question...I think it' s along shot that your DME would have the clip. The cost (charge) is the least of your worries.

Not all DMEs are incompetent and evil. There's a decent chance you'll get a clip, maybe even for free.

The fact that it's a new mask does reduce the odds.

I was washing the webbing in a large plastic bowl in sink. I knocked the clip in the sink when I was emptying the bowl. Hey, it happens.

I did a quick check online, and that clip sells for $12.95 + $8.95 shipping. Hope you're able to find one locally.

Thanks for checking, how'd you do that?? Gee, it seems like $22.00 should cover the cost of a 25cent piece of plastic quite nicely..grrrrr.

Welcome to cpap world where tiny pieces of plastic should be covered in gold for what they cost.

Check with your DME. Often they have office demo models that they can't sell and if they are nice they can rob a part off of one of the demos. It is unlikely that they will stock a replacement clip (but you never know). If they are nice they might be able to just rob from one of the demos.

Google "Amara mask parts," and places that sell parts for the Amara mask will show up. I checked only a couple of places, and they both had identical prices for the part and the shipping. I also did a quick check on Ebay, but no such luck there.

Maybe someone here has an old Amara mask that they no longer use and can help you. It sure beats paying $22 for a clip. Hope you find some help. Good luck.

I work at a DME and if we had a spare one we would probably give it to you (the clip). Unfortunately with the Amara being a newer mask we dont have any spare ones at the moment. Call your DME or even try Respironics you never know you may get a nice customer service rep that will help you out.

Moondawg; just so you don't feel too bad, Plumbers commonly apprentice for around 4 years.
This is how long some of them take to learn to cover the drain when they are working.

That's a very deep philosophical statement. 4 years apprenticeship to be come a plumber.

I wonder how many hours of training is required to become the person at a DME who actually sets up and dispenses CPAP equipment?

Moondawg, did you get your part?
