Newbie just getting started

Post by otessa63 » Thu Jul 19, 2012 6:54 pm

Hi,

I finally received my Philips Respironics BiPAP machine last Friday...and have yet to sleep a full night with it. I just lay here concentrating on the "breathing" it seems to be doing for me. I mean, it feels like it want to inhale before I'm ready. I'm really having trouble adjusting.

Is this normal and is anyone else on a BiPAP? I have a comfort gel full face mask....and I feel totally restrained. I typically sleep on my side and feel like I can't move for fear of pull the mask the wrong way. Help!!!

Is Bi-Flex turned on? If so, you may do better with it turned off.

It does ge easier with time. Newbies often are wirried about moving around in the bed. Go ahead and move. And find a way of sleeping on your side since that's what you prefer. If you trigger a leak, just gently pull the mask away from your face and allow it to settle back down in the position you are currently lying in.

Hello and welcome. I'm new too. There is lots of wisdom on this forum and lots of kind people. Hang in there. From what I've read it will get better.

I've had my machine for two weeks and last night had the best night's sleep I've had in who knows how long. You will, too.

It's normal to be so hyper-aware i.e. fearful of changing sleep positions due to mask, hose, etc. I still am, though less so than 2 weeks ago. Sleeping is very personal and, suddenly, we have this equipment right up close and in our faces, literally. It's bound to make us more anxious. I hyperventilated! Maybe you are a little, too. We all want to be comfortable when we go to bed, but the newness of the tight mask kind of affects that. You'll find ways to make yourself comfortable and there are sooo many suggestions on this board.

Good luck to you.
