Cost of CPAP machine at a preferred supplier

Post by DannyCPAP » Sun Jul 15, 2012 5:53 pm

I would like to share my experience in buying my ResMed machine (in Canada).
My sleep clinic (in one of the hospitals) referred me to one of their preferred suppliers. they quoted CA$2100 with the following breakdown (I have the document):
machine: $1040
mask (mirage Fx): $350
1 year of disposable filters: $160
6' reusable tubing: $100
non disposable humidifier chamber: $200
climate line tubing: $100
service package and extended warranty: $150

total: $2100

Our beloved government pays for $780 of the expense and I have no additional insurance. I therefore started to look for a better price at non "preferred" suppliers.

end result? $1345 instead of $1950 (I did not by an extended warranty. the preferred supplier therefore charged $605 more than needed.

beware and be aware.

I recently bought my first: ResMed S1 60 with heated humidifier, 6' hose, mask, overnight delivery....just under $800.

Hi,

I think you would be better off buying this yourself without the government help. For example, the rack price for the mast is $109 US at cpap.com. I often get the 6' tubing for free, but if you have to pay for it, expect to pay about $10, or around $50 for the climate line. A humidifier chamber should be around $30, not $200. Filters can be found on E-bay for buck or two each. The machine itself is listed for $800 on-line, but you can often get a better price if you call them directly (ResMed doesn't want them advertising a discount price). I'd also forget the extended warranty--you would only need it on the machine, and it is about 20% of the cost of the machine. I'd take the 1 in 5 risk of a machine going bad after the manufactures warranty.

The prices that you were quoted is criminal. Someone should go to jail for that kind of highway robbery.

While we are sharing horror story quotes here's mine from Australia:

Philips Respironics
BiPAP with mask $AU3075.00
AFlex with Mask $AU2099.00

ResMed
S9 Auto with Mask $2747.00

My business will be going online.
