Resmed S9 Ponderings

Post by sleepycarol » Thu Jul 05, 2012 7:41 pm

It appears that I have met my deductible for the year. I have purchased two masks through insurance and my M series Apap with C-flex in 2007. All other supplies, masks, and machines I have purchased out of pocket. One reason is that I had switched to my employers insurance and it has a high deductible. In December I talked hubby into adding me back to his plan which has a $500 deductible and cheaper copay since it was approximately the same out of pocket expense for premiums for us.

Due to some medical tests I have met my deductible. I recently purchased a new PS1 bipap from Craigslist that I love!! It is so quiet and breathing with it seems so natural. I can't see the benefit of buying a PS1 apap since I have the bipap I like and am using.

Prior to purchasing the PS1 I was using an S8 Autoset II that I really liked. I would like to try the new ResMed S9 machine. I know my doctor would write me a script for a bipap if I asked her to , but I don't want a new sleep study and my initial sleep study didn't warrant me having a bipap. I know these are more expensive. Should I try for a bipap (original titration set my pressure from 8 to 12, but I find I do better with it set from 9 to 15 as I tend to go above 12 often enough to warrant leaving it set to 15). Should I just settle for trying to get an s9 autoset apap? The only thing that bothers me is that the hose appears to come from the back of the machine like the M series from Respironics which I hated.

My reasoning is that I would have a fairly new back-up machine. I don't always meet the deductible so that is why I am wondering about doing it now.
I use the Headrest mask. I am thinking of getting supplies since the deductible is met (after I compare costs) and would like to try some of the new masks out. Any suggestions?
Start Date: 8/30/2007 Pressure 9 - 15

Sleepycarol, Yes, the hose comes out the back of the H5i humidifier.
