New version of DeVilbiss Smartlink

Post by yrnkrn » Sat Apr 28, 2012 12:43 am

Devilbiss updated their Smartlink software from 2.4.1 to 2.5.1.
There is big improvement in card download speed, but it's still not a one-click download.

To "balance" the increased download speed the Patient Information report takes minutes to appear. This is the default report that appears when you select patient reports. Even if you just want to see the nightly report, you can't avoid it. But I have found a way to speed up this report: using the Report editor, create a custom Patient Information report and leave just one section marked, like this:

Now it appears in a second.

DeVilbiss - if you're reading here, PLEASE provide us with one-click download and nightly report.
That's the most common procedure and currently it takes far many clicks and wait times between to perform.

My SmartLink disc is ver. 2.2.1.0. I upgraded it once to 1.4 something when I was notified. I got the message to upgrade it again to ver. 2.5 I think it was a couple of days ago. I started the upgrade and something went wrong.

I got to the point where the desktop shortcut and been uninstalled. Then I'm not sure what happened. I tried a "System Restore" on my computer. That got the icon back and it opens but that's about it. I did not get another upgrade notice.

I thought I might uninstall and reinstall the original software but it won't uninstall. I get this long error message- MessagesFile "c:\ProgramFiles\DevilbissHealthcare\DevilbissRemote Control\unins000.msg" is missing. Please correct the problem or obtain a new copy of the program.

I am quite computer illiterate and don't know how to proceed! Anyone? I am willing to buy the software again from cpap.com again. I will not need the module so it would be $54 I think. Would this be the solution? Is theirs the latest or at least the 2.4 upgrade?

Thanks anyone!

I am betting that what is offered for sale right now will be the older version and will need the upgrade and this will probably stay that way until when and if the new version is distributed on disc to suppliers but you might send cpap a note and ask for sure.

I am short on time at the moment but there is a way of manually removing the program that won't uninstall.
It involves manually deleting any and all files/folders associated with the program. We call it a dirty removal because it typically leaves bits and pieces laying around that we can't find...especially in the registry.

What you might do is rename the old broken software to make it non functioning...then the attempted install from the disc won't look for the old version and should proceed like it isn't even on your computer.
I think that all would be needed is to rename the main folder and this breaks the line of connection.
In theory it should work. To rename it...navigate using Mycomputer to the main folder wherever it is...right click mouse and choose rename...call it whatever you like..Brokensoftware would be good.
It is easily reversed if need be.
Of course old data is probably gone but with a failed uninstall..it is probably gone anyway.

If this doesn't work...maybe I can come up with other ideas when I have more time or I could explain how to manually remove the files/folders if you don't know how.

Click on the DeVilbiss round logo on the top-left corner of the software and then select Update software.

I installed the Smartlink upgrade and it went just fine with the exception that it took forever to install. This morning, I got an another upgrade request and ran it. When it finished my icons were re-arranged in order on the left side. For over two years, I have had my icons arranged in related groups for ease of use with system tools on the right and common icons on the left. I was ripped that Smartlink took the liberty to re-arrange my desktop icons. To me, that's an unnecessary invasion. There's no reason for an install script to move my icons around. My laptop is an up to date install of Windows 7. They can't blame an outdated OS for the problem.

I've leaned toward Sleepyhead for ease of use since Mark added the Intellipap auto to the program. It is a much more sensible design that lends itself to single users very well. I may just blow away Smartlink just for grins. I hate that I paid so much for it, but it was the only game in town at the time. Kudos to Sleepyhead ... frowns to Smartlink!
