What is best nasal pillow and best chin strap
What is best nasal pillow and best chin strap
I have tried four different masks and am now thinking perhaps a nasal pillow would be the answer. Have most recently used the RESMED Mirage Liberty combo mask/nasal pillow. Am still having problems adjusting to that. A friend of mine uses the nasal pillow type and gets along great. If the medical supply place goes for that do you have a suggestion as to brands and type for less leakage and comfort? Thanks much.

What is that on the horizon? Is it a bird, a plane.... maybe Superman? Nope. It's Avi123 to the rescue. Am I freakin' prescient or what? Stick around Marydye, you'll get a flood of advice of all sorts.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Re: What is best nasal pillow and best chin strap
I would suggest looking at the Swift FX and the Aloha. See if one of them strikes your fancy. The Aloha is probably a little more stable for newbies.
I have used both and while I prefer the Swift FX overall, I can sure appreciate the Aloha and I liked it well enough to keep it as a secondary mask.
But it doesn't really matter what mask I think is better because we all have different preferences, priorities and needs.
I might love something and you might hate it. Mask preference is highly individual.

marydye,
Take a look at the Opus 360 nasal pillows headgear. I must confess I've only used two kinds... the other was the Swift FX. The FX is very light weight and comfortable. See link below to see what it looks like.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... dgear.html
Side sleeping and moving my head around popped the pillows out of my nose.
The Opus 360 has the side to side stability that works better in my case.

Less leaks equals better therapy. You can see the wearer can fasten the hose up over the top of the head. If you wear glasses and want to read in bed or watch TV the Opus 360 would work if you released the hose from the top strap. The hose connection swivels where it connects to the headgear by your nose. I like the hose going up over my head. It's out of the way so I don't roll on top of it and pull the gear off my head or (worse yet) bruise my nose.
There are other nasal pillows out there. You can see them at cpap.com. Or if you are lucky enough to live close to a good DME you could wander through the store. Of course what fits great for me might not work at all for you. Each person's face is shaped differently. Masks are most often trial and error. Some people are lucky and find one that works right off.... other people have to try out a few or more before getting a good fit.
Good luck and best wishes,
Cindy

Re: What is best nasal pillow and best chin strap
Marydye, most DMEs have a 30 day return policy. From your info it looks like you have another couple of weeks to get another mask. I would suggest talking to you DME and tell them the mask isn't working for you.marydye wrote:I have tried four different masks and am now thinking perhaps a nasal pillow would be the answer. btw masks as Pugsy stated are very personal. what fits one person does not mean it will fit you.

I forgot to add that chin straps are also very personal. Someone had one for sale not long ago...one that a lot of people love but it didn't work for at least that one person.

Re: What is best nasal pillow and best chin strap
I don't like the Resperonic's Premium ChinStrap. It is not comfortable, especially the fabric that meets the chin area.
I'm fairly pleased with the Swift FX (nasal pillows) although I'm new and don't have any experience with the others.
Sorry I don't have much more to add at this point but I felt bad in not giving you any information with my original reply which was totally off-topic and directed sarcasm at another situation...

Re: What is best nasal pillow and best chin strap
I don't use chin straps as all I have ever tried drive me crazy. I have tried quite a few different masks and nasal pillows over the years. For the past 3 or 4 years I have used the mirage swift II (after upgrading from the original). I have found that it works the best for me. You'll find nothing is perfect, but this one is close for me. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... dgear.html
Re: What is best nasal pillow and best chin strap
I just wanted to put a good word in for Puresom Ruby Adjustable Chinstrap. I like it. The fabric is smooth against the skin and it works. It is not 100% in that if you really want to you can open your mouth, but it does take effort.
I now have it set looser (is that a word?) as a reminder to my unconscious brain to keep my mouth closed (again, thanks pugsy for that idea). So now I have a semi loose nasal pillow and a not tight chin strap! Who knows maybe I will graduate to just my FX. One can hope!
